Ancient Dungeon is the best and most unique roguelike in VR. It has a classic, fresh voxel pixel art style. The way how this game works literally can only be done in VR. You can interact with ANYTHING, from cutting blades of grass, breaking items to loot, and climbing ladders. The head tracking and physics is done so well to dodge attacks, climb up to areas, push enemies away, and more. It has all the proper roguelike elements like random rooms, enemies, relics to make you stronger, and even bosses (only in The Overgrown Gatehouse). Did I mention this game is hard? Because it is a normal thing to die in a roguelike, especially like this one with a huge learning curve. That is why there is something special called insight-unlocked by general things like entering new areas, killing enemies, buying things from the shop, getting new relics, ect. Insight will help each run get permanently easier, the more upgrade you get the better. The cheapest of those upgrades is necessary for progression as it allows you to collect journal pages, which is lore from other delvers just like you. One of these particular delvers will help you unlock a new weapon set. After beating the game there are more permanent upgrades-this time for your weapons, and if you beat the game three times, you unlock two new modes. There is even a console in settings you can use to make a sandbox experience and run customization (the dice in the corner where you start the game). And surprisingly, this game still has so much more content. There are 55 achievements to unlock with some unlocking new relics that you have a chance seeing on your next run and adding it to the board after picking it up. Overall, this game could take a good 40-50 hours to fully wrap up, if you go mainly for objectives. That is better value than some 30-40$ games. And multiplayer is currently out. I just tried it with a friend and it was absolutely amazing. You have to join the discord to find out how to play it. (It’s somewhat buggy, but it’s in beta) The interactions and the mutual support system make this an absolute classic for you and your friends even though I was already experienced.

Favorite VR Game. By far my favorite vr title so far! I love the art style and how the game is easy to understand but difficult to master. The randomly generated dungeons make gameplay way more fun and make every experience different enough to still feel exciting. Even after beating the game, there is plenty of post content and I’m still discovering things for the first time! Absolutely recommend to everyone, even though i have had some who’ve played it and have had motion sickness.
My experience in this game is just wow. My experience in this game is just wow. never thought items to the rooms and active items to the creatures laying in the dungeon it’s all perfect to some enemies being the size of me in person, it feels like your just there One of my favourite parts is that replayability you could even have a boring run or a one, but it’s completely wack and chaotic, i’ll never thought I would say about this for a game but just buy it buy now,
it’s my favourite retro style game play is easy to learn hard to master with simple mechanics feeling complex at the first few runs
Multiplayer. If any of the developers or people who work on this game read this, can you tell me when multiplayer will come out for quest 2, because I want to play it with my friend, but I can’t because multiplayer isn’t on quest 2
I just 100% the game and achievements!!! I just 💯% this game and that alone shows how good this game is!
(sorry about the gloating I just got every achievement, every item and everything but I’m gonna try to keep this game review very big but also informative)
so first I want to say that this game is beautiful!
(So are u 🗣️)
The art direction of this game man, It’s just so great!!! The pixelated style makes it actually feel like a old Roguelike but VR…
You can break things in this game! so many things!!! In fact you can break almost every plant and every object like a frickin table or a chest or anything which makes me ecstatic because when you do, you can find coins and keys so if you play slow paced like me, you can actually get stuff!!!
The dungeon feels old and grimy, which supports the idea that it’s moving slowly because the plants all around are engraved in the cracks of the walls!! it’s almost like this big infrastructure is getting moved by the plants.
There’s also a bunch of lore. there’s papers you can collect in the dungeon which youre immediately greeted by as you join your first run because this game is somewhat difficult
( my bad for spoilers )
and this game is just like everything I imagined VR would be like and what it would stand for when I got my headset!!!!!!!
KUDOS TO YOU ERTHO AND OTHER GUY ( I THINK ) AND THANKS FOR GOOD GAME
Hidden, very hidden big gem. Don't let its Minecraft visuals fool you, this rogue dungeon game is really fun. I'm very picky with the type of games I buy. I love games that you can replay over and over again. I also love games that you can go for a round of an hour or two and be done. It's very entertaining to be able to unlock different powerups, and to be able to run through a different/random dungeon every time you go for a run, it keeps things fresh ! This is actually one of my top three games in my library. Not to mention, you get a lot of bang for your buck !
This game is genuinely one of the best. Ancient dungeon is quite possibly the funnest single player experience on VR right now, if not 1 it’s in the top ten. The combat is very satisfying and responsive, the feeling and weights of every weapon is perfect, which overall makes the entire combat system very satisfying. The fighting is rewarding, and the relics (of which I’m sure more are on the way.) are incredibly fun, unique, and add a lot to the game. The lore is surprisingly deep as well, I have approx. maybe about 20-30 hours so far on this game if I had to guess, and there is still so much to discover. It never gets stale, I’m on my 20th delve and I’m still getting surprised by new enemies, items, situations, everything. The enemies themselves are unique, interesting, and they almost never feel unfair. Between the 5 different floors of the dungeon, and the secret rooms combined up with the merchant, every floor always has some of that initial charm one would have when first exploring it. Truly has to be the best replay ability of a single player game on VR as well. Now I could go on and on about more positives, but there are a few minor negatives. At certain points, the graphics do glitch out a small amount, on certain walls (mostly in the luminous mines) there are some texture glitches. This also happens for chests sometimes, which almost always reveals a mimic. The bosses as well are the only portions of the game that feels sort of stale at certain points. Doom Shroom and the Forgotten Library boss are the only ones that feel very fun to fight still. Other bosses such as the King Slime feel annoying, and others, such as the Elder Skeleton, are way too easy. The 125+ relics currently as well are very fun, do not get me wrong, but more being added as well as possibly the inclusion of more upgrades/uses for beast blood would be very enjoyable as well. All in all, this is one of the greatest experiences on VR currently from a single-player perspective, with what has to be the best replay ability of any VR game. It is an excellent roguelite with amazing combat, interesting lore, vast amounts of enemies, and what seems to be an endless amount of twists and turns to enjoy at every corner. I’m certain the game will recieve more content in advance from this review, but the future of this game most certainly seems bright as the present is bright itself. If the developers read this, fantastic game and keep working on it! I’m sure I speak for plenty of people when I say this game is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had on VR.
Excellent game. This game is extremely fun, not easy by any means, but also not impossible. I haven’t run in to any glitches, except sometimes the dagger (Assassins armament) doesn’t appear sometimes when I try to get it, causing unnecessary damage in certain scenarios. Other than that (which I haven’t encountered for a while, not sure if it’s patched) this is one of the best games iv played. I’m super psyched for the official multiplayer update, keep up the good work!
Extremely fun! *Updated review* Thanks for the dev response! Crashing is very infrequent now, almost never happens. Loving multiplayer. Keep up the good work!
*Old review* Super addicting game that I haven’t been able to put down the last couple weeks. It’s difficult, which is why I like it.
BUT
It crashes a lot. There is the save feature after each location, but it still can crash before you can get to the next save point. It’s not crashing super frequently, but I can recall 10 times in the last couple weeks when it has.
Definitely still buy the game, it’s super fun. This is more just me expressing my frustration. It can be really frustrating when you’re on New Game+++ and you crash, realizing you haven’t saved since New Game+.
truly an amazing game. i’ve been playing since it was only out on side quest. and when it full released i immediately bought it. i saw firsthand as the difficulty was a lot harder and i no longer could make it past the first boss.
fast forward to today after beating the game 3 times you can switch it to hard mode. i can’t live long enough to even find the first boss! also the graphics are beautiful and this game runs extremely smooth. so if you are looking for a challenge buy this now
Amazing game, Multiplayer in beta. Game is a great rouge-like dungeon crawler on its own, but multiplayer being in the works makes it even better, the current multiplayer beta is already pretty good and has most of the base game features. Overall 8.5/10
It's awesome 😍. I am 32 and this game so atmospheric. I Plays already 2 weeks. I love it. I noticed some bugs: 1) pink flying thing with laser-attack doesn't make damage on you. 2) level generation bugs: sometimes locations are generated, for example, with a chest that is located through an abyss and there is no way to get to it, then the same thing only instead of an abyss there are spikes that do not close, and I also saw a secret wall that can be broken, but it was blocked by a second texture.
