Freakishly cool. So, there goes an hour! The motion controls were easy to learn and pretty soon I was flying freely through Google earth. Zooming up to outer space and the dropping down to Venice to zip through the canals. Whoa. Then over to vermont to check out and fly up some of my favorite ski runs. It’s a treat to be able to fly, and explore the earth. Loving it. And can’t wait to see features later into this.
Super Fly! I got this app on its release day in App Lab. I don't think there is any app like it for standalone Quest. You stand (or sit) on your own personal "drone" and fly around the world. The controls work great, and I had zero motion sickness, unlike other flying apps. It was super cool to fly over rooftops and between buildings in New York City!
The team that created Fly also created VZfit, which is a biking/fitness app I use a lot. They are very responsive and always updating VZfit, so I assume they will do the same with Fly. I'm looking forward to exploring the world and seeing what else they do with this new app!
Great App! Hi. You got a really great App. As a baseball and football fan, I specially appreciate to locate and record small videos of stadiums. The level of detail is awesome for a stand alone game. The controls are cool to. If you go to Hoover Dam, continu your way up to Vegas. It’s very cool to fly between the hotels on the Strp!! Hope to see many new cities and location soon.
Just wow. I fly paragliders and the initial view in FLY is what that looks like. Except in FLY I can climb to a few miles high, get proportionally accelerated automatically, and fly to Paris. Then drop down and fly through the streets to my student apartment.
An excellent brief tutorial sets you up for fun. Flying is easy to control even your first time, then just easy and fun. For a first release this is an incredible achievement. Not to be missed.
Much potential. Ever since I used Google Earth VR on Quest Link, I’ve been longing for something similar that is native to the Quest. This is the closest I’ve seen yet. I love the experience of riding around on a large drone. Really well done. It needs work with the UX and accessibility, but this is early and the devs have done quite well so far. I would love to be able to sit down and fly around without having to lean forward to move. It really needs some navigation options.A simple move of the joystick or a trigger should suffice for moving so I can relax while exploring. But, minor complaint. Overall, highly recommend. Looking forward to continued improvements.
Very cool, but lacks essential functions. First off, thanks for bringing somewhat of a Google earth experience to Quest! I love to loose myself in the app but would even more so if it had:
- an option to only use Controllers or Hand tracking for Navigation. Leaning is just too bothersome for long time use - an option to jumper to custom locations. I needed almost an hour to find where I live. - related: an optional minimap. At the moment I switch to Google maps in a browser to orient myself and its really annoying. - nearby landmarks. The landmarks it shows are not really relevant for me.
Awesome fun. Amazing app, would be great if can add so we can choose our own locations or Atleast more cities to teleport too,, you have Gold coast Australia in destinations yet don't even have Sydney or the capital so i had to fly for ages trying to guess and figure out where sydney even was where I'm from, need a tab to be able to search locations ourselves, absolutely cool app regardless
Minimum viable product done right. Fly is definitely an App lab release it doesn't have many frills and there are a lot of things that can be improved (and I expect will be). That said, for its current release state it does its job very well and intuitively and provides a enjoyable experience worth the pricetag.
If you want the "flying portion" of Google Earth VR but without a gaming PC (or the need to use link) then this does that very well.
If the developers read this I'd say my immediate "low hanging fruit" improvements would be to greatly miniaturize the "wheel things" on the platform and to put the HUD on a controller. Both visually get in the way of your view while exploring.
Exploration Activated. If you're at all like me, you like the doors that Oculus can open for you from the comfort of your own home. Fly anywhere in the world -from the streets of your old neighborhood to the far off destination you've only dreamed of or are dying to get back to - from your own hoverboard. Tired of Earth? Then head for the stars. While still in its infancy stages, there's a world of possibility available.
As someone prone to motion sickness in VR, they've done a great job at regulating the movement to avoid the typical concerns. As long as I didn't do any extreme navigating in multiple directions at once, I had no issues at all.
Fly around the world in a UFO. Controlling a UFO-like aircraft with body motions to fly around the world is a lot of fun. Feature request: 1. Higher resolution. 2. Search function. 3. Multiplayer would be even more fun. Thanks for the great APP!
I only ask you one thing: create a second channel and also make the old version available to me which was ultra smooth, I'm interested in the app remaining fluid at a high resolution, because the panoramas need high resolutions to see the small details, and this is objectively the best way to make the app work!
here is the proof:
previous version video, resolution 145 and gpu at 5.... framerate in the Green!!
(meta prevents me from posting the link)
new video, resolution 145 and gpu at 7!!!!!.... and framerate in the red!!!!
(meta prevents me from posting the link)
since the app is in development create at least two release channels with the old and new versions, because there is nothing more frustrating than seeing an app that you wanted for a long time, which works perfectly and after the update it doesn't it works anymore! my email is cmassimo355 @ gmail . com please do something if you want
( to see the videos of the two versions, these are the latest videos (3) published on my Yt channel: SCM74 Realtà Virtuale )

If there's one thing I hate, it's an app that updates automatically. and the thing that makes me angry the most is when the update causes the app to work worse, that's what frustrates me is knowing that I can't go back to the previous version!
hey!! the frame rate has definitely worsened with this update. and I have the tests I made some videos by changing the resolution with this optimizer and at the same resolution of 143 with the same CPU and GPU values and fov 3 now the framerate has definitely worsened. I have proof of this, I recorded the previous video where you can clearly see from the graph that the framerate is much higher and you can also see a clear drop. certainly at the resolution of 0.78 that you are using now no one notices anything!! because the frame rate remains unchanged!! but try raising the resolution to a level acceptable to the eye and you see that now the framerate has significantly worsened!! I want the old version back immediately, this is totally unfair. if you want to improve your app for the future, go back to the previous version! ------
old review 5 star...
The app is very nice, but I would like to ask the developers if there is a risk that in the future you will request a subscription to use it, just like you did with your other game, which I don't use precisely for that reason.
Also, I wanted to mention that I tried the app on the Quest 3, and with the optimizer, I was able to increase the graphics from 0.78 to a value of 174 without any framerate issues by maximizing the GPU and CPU, and it's absolutely incredible.
All in all, there's one limitation of the app (which cannot be changed with the optimizer), and that is the horizon not being fully rendered. In fact, if you look closely at a distance, you can see the mountains being composed due to the limited viewing range. I'm not sure how to explain it better.
This didn't happen with Earth Quest, even though Earth Quest was a much more rudimentary app made by a single developer. Of course, Earth Quest suffered from a poor framerate. I would like, if possible, for the horizon to be expanded so that it can be viewed at 100% without the mountains being reconstructed as you approach.
Additionally, the platform and the graphical navigation system, I think they could be eliminated or moved slightly lower, or at least provide ample customization options to players according to their needs.
For example, I wouldn't have any problems flying without the platform because I enjoy looking directly below. However, since the platform is well-made, especially with that strange system of rotating things that resembles a science fiction machine, I think it would be better to make it a bit smaller and more visually appealing. Of course, as I mentioned before, to accommodate everyone, it would be best to provide as many options as possible.
When transitioning from a very low altitude where there are no clouds in the sky to a medium altitude where there are clouds, the change is immediate: one moment the sky is clear, and the next it's filled with clouds. There should be a small transitional phase where the clouds gradually appear, maybe through a fade-in effect.
The idea of having music is excellent. It should also be possible to choose not to have music because when videos are made for YouTube, they can be flagged for copyright infringement.
And when there's no music, the sound of the drone and the wind should be audible.
Regarding movement, there could be various options to have a more sensitive area for less body movement.
Furthermore, hand tracking would be useful, and it would be necessary to figure out how to manage altitude changes with hand tracking, especially for ascending. Perhaps raising both arms could be a good idea to increase altitude?
