Hugo Simberg is one of the most important artists of Finnish symbolism. Myths, fairy tales and imagination gave Simberg a new artistic language. It made it possible to express difficult and complex ideas as well as emotions. Although sometimes stylistically naive, Simberg’s works are not singilar in their explination, but contain multiple interlocking levels and layers of interpretation.
This unique VR exhibition presents Simberg's light-sensitive, paper-based gouache paintings, which are subject to many limitations when displayed in a traditional exhibition space. The works were created in the late 1890s during Simberg's early career as an artist, when he stayed in Ruovesi studying under Akseli Gallen-Kallela and travelled to London, Paris and Italy.
Excellent way to experience art online! This was a really nice way to experience art online! I could see the artworks bigger than I would have in real life. The soundscape was excellently build. I was thrilled there was a voiceover explaining more about the artworks (audio available in Finnish and in English), so I could just listen and immerse myself to the art. There was a lot to see and learn in four different themed worlds, so I could see myself experiencing The World of Hugo Simberg more than just once.
Delightful and relaxing escape! The opportunity to immerse myself in the intricate details of the artworks was truly a unique experience. It allowed for a serene and personal exploration, creating a peaceful atmosphere that made me feel entirely absorbed in the art. It provided a wonderful way to unwind, appreciate the beauty of Simberg's creations, and lose myself in the world of art without any distractions. I highly recommend this virtual exhibition as a pleasant way to relax and indulge in the world of art. PS. Soundscape was amazing as well!
