The Weakest of the Series. To put it bluntly, it's a celebration of 50 year old games, designed for people who have never touched a game in their life.
The difficulty is so lax that combat might as well have been excluded entirely, and yet the constant stream of instant death traps & unskipable, Neverending cutscenes is enough to put off those younger gamers who light difficulty is designed for.
The game is also unclear about saving, and closing at the wrong time can see you having to complete 10-15+ minutes of content to catch up... with that content likely being more cutscene.
There are some good ideas here, but nothing is capitalized on. We're this a studios first attempt, it might be worth more than 2 stars, but being the third game in the franchise, it's honestly sad.
A great sequel. After so many years, the gameplay formula remains original and fresh. Once again, we have likeable characters, a simple story and unfortunately, a short game length.
I didn't like PR 1995, but I LOVE this. OK, I know PR 1995 is really beloved, but I was not a fan. I assumed there would be more actual VR FPS type gameplay in it. As you probably already know, it was mostly platforming 2D gameplay. Yeah, it gave me a sense of nostalgia and all, but it was basically just playing 2D games in VR. The funny thing is that most of the negative reviews I have read about this game was that there is "too much" VR FPS type gameplay. That is actually why I LOVE this game. I totally want that VR experience, and it was a really nice balance with the 2D Atari 2600 style gameplay that was mixed in. If you want the same PR 1995 experience, then you may be disappointed. Like I said, you will get a lot of VR action mixed in with the early 80's era 2D gameplay. It is also fun to be in the office environment, which I am VERY familiar with as someone who works in I.T. and in Silicon Valley, the very same area our protagonists office is located. So yeah, I have a pretty strong connection to this game. I hope this helps anyone who may be on the fence about this one.
Disappointed. I adore Pixel Ripped 1995. It's my favorite VR game — crafted with passion, cozy, nostalgic, and captivating. I've played it multiple times on Hardcore mode. However, Pixel Ripped 1978 is an entirely different game. Instead of fitting references to old games, you'll encounter a dreary Minecraft, repulsive characters, and the same silly pixel platformer. At some point, I just couldn't bear it and abandoned playing since it's so dull and unappealing.
Not My Cup of Tea. The main menu of a game can provide valuable insights about the overall experience. Unfortunately, when a monitor flies out of your face, it doesn't bode well for the game you're about to start.
First, let's address the negative points: • The 3D levels where you play as Dot feel somewhat disconnected from the rest of the game. They don't contribute much to the overall experience and seem to exist only to artificially prolong the game. There is even a level consisting solely of blue-ish cubes, which feels uninspired. • While the idea of using pixels to alter or create objects is interesting, the implementation falls short. You're limited to shooting pixels at corresponding objects without the ability to choose what you want to create or which objects you want to change. • The 2D games within the Bug's world feel more like one game separated on different cartridges. There is no variety in terms of shoot'em up or racing; it's just a platform puzzler. • The inclusion of voices from YouTubers might not be to everyone's liking. It can sometimes feel out of place or distracting.
Now, let's discuss the positive points: • The music in Pixel Ripped 1978 is truly enjoyable. The main theme and the music in the level where you fight a sock are particularly noteworthy. • The nostalgic effect of the TVs and monitors is well-executed. It truly feels like playing on an old-fashioned screen, adding to the retro charm of the game. • There are a few highlights within the game that stand out. The Arcanoid + Arcanoid battle, the Text adventure (though disappointingly short), and the art design of the last level (excluding the level design) are particularly commendable.
Boring. Enjoyed the other two games. My least favourite part of those was the 3d pixel world adventure type sections. They were boring. However, they seem to have made that the whole game this time. They've added combat but it's like a poor version of Wolfenstein 3d for VR. Definitely not worth the mild motion sickness.
Oh boy.....🤔. Gosh, where do I start. I was really confused in starting this game. Like other people, I loved seeing pixel games and such from my younger years. I really enjoy the desk where your constantly interrupted because of the employees but having the same interruption over an over becomes really annoying. It was funny at first but not the 20th time. I get the idea of going into the game an then out. I don't quite get the time travel. It's pretty irritating when your "playing" the video game from the desk in your office and can't get your bearings when trying to find the golden cartridges. You travel back an forth, up and down and don't really know where your suppose to go. I only enjoyed when you were "in" the game. I feel like I've been playing for days an days but only have 10 of the 40 gold cartridges. Now I'm not excited to keep looking. As I do understand the story, it just jumps around too much. I hope there is something new while looking for the next 10 gold cartridges since this is becoming a bit monotonous. As far as graphics, bad guy, monsters, it's really cool. A bit tired of "reading" characters talking to me but I understand. Hopefully after I'm done with this game (maybe), I will have changed my opinions. We'll see..... I gave 5 stars because I just love that I'm able to play a game in VR and know it takes a great deal to make a game like this. If you were my age, you would understand how it was back then an how lucky you are to have such a "console" to play games on. I started on an Intellivision. Google it..lol
The Pixel Ripped Series is VR Gold. The creativity, nostalgia, and comedic tones in the Pixel Ripped games are unmatched. The developers truly do their homework in regards to capturing the staple video game experiences of each time period they showcase. What a genius concept. There’s so many monumental time periods in video game history that this series can make new editions for years to come!
VR has some good titles out there, but several really lame ones. Lately, most of the new release game trailers have been “meh”. Just the same boring concepts being recycled over and over. However, whenever I see a new Pixel Ripped title, I’m immediately eager to purchase. This series’ brand has quickly made its way to the top of the VR chain in terms of quality. Without seeing a new releases trailer, a buyer can simply look at the title and confidently purchase the game expecting a cool and relatable (nostalgic) experience!
MIND BLOWN FOR THE 3RD TIME! I am running out of words to describe the sheer genius of the developers of these pixel ripped games! I was a MASSIVE fan of the other 2 and was hugely anticipating this 3rd instalment and as usual Arvore and the team did not disappoint! Same degree of charm as the others, absolutely love the way it pays homage to the different eras of video game consoles as well as what the era was like in general when looking at surroundings etc, it’s so cleverly thought out from every single angle! Again immensely love the creative way the games cross into the real world during certain boss battles and the way you have to go into the flat version in game versus being in VR in order to progress, again a masterstroke.
I sincerely hope there are millions more of these games to come because I could play as Dot and save the world time and time again! You guys rock and I’m already looking forward to the next one! Whenever that will be! Thank you ever so much for a mind blowing, charming, creative and ingenious experience once again! 🔥🙂
I give it a 5 with notes. So I love the series, so I’m gonna give you a five… but I did want to ask for one favor… please add free-locomotion in the “past scenes” if you ever make another game. I was really hoping you would incorporate that in this game, so I was a little disappointed. I’m dying to walk around in those nostalgic scenes, just to soak them in. For instance exploring the Atari offices would have been a dream come true. Please consider it! Game is great but it could be legendary with that extra bit.

As a fan of pixel ripped 1995, WOW this game is bigger and better and these dev's deserve so much praise. I'm 3 hours in and I'm tingling with excitement and adrenaline, this game is challenging in the best way, and the visuals are mind blowingg. Whether you are familiar with these old school games or not, you must give this a try. Wow wow wow. God I love VR. Heading back
Pretty awesome. Like Pixel Ripped 1995, this game will suprise you with its creativity and design. Because of some frustrating 2d platform sections, I'd rate Pixel Ripped 1995 a little higher. Overall this is must have game that takes advantage of what VR is capable of.

This is glitch and hard. Like, bro, it is so hard and stupid I recommend this game NOTTTTTTT
Great all around game. Great all around game, I love all the different environment you get to play in and explore, the game is very good and fun makes you want to keep playing. My favorite part is the library and the DND board game 🎯 now 😞 my grips is they missed a opportunity to go a little further by making the gold Atari cartridges actual games from Atari that you could play in an Atari emulator in one of the rooms that they made like the basement or library. That would have made people definitely get all of the golden cartridges so they could have actual entire games to play in their Atari emulator , and give it replayability. Maybe they can make this a DLC or something I know people would get it. But the game by it's self is still very good right to the end 😊 about 5 hours
