Fantastic chess game. Great chess game! I have been playing for about a year and have always enjoyed it… However, the most recent update cause many bugs in the game. Often after a long game against another player, the king will be able to move into check and be taken. This breaks the whole game. Sometimes my opponents will also become unable to make moves. Please fix these bugs and I will happily update my rating
Next best thing to OTB chess ! Awsome ! All the environments are beautifull. The last update (clock and park) is fantastic. Since everybody seems to suggest some future improvements, here's my take : would it be possible to save our (finished) games as pgn files ? That would allow further analysis with or without computer assistance. All I can do now is take pictures of the scorecheet...

Was SUCH a good game until…. This game has been so much fun…. Then the recent update…. As far as multiplayer is concerned…. Turned into crap.
Black screens, constant kickbacks to the main menu with “network error” that comes with a countdown to retry and then the kickback repeats. (I was able to finally have the multiplayer work once after 3 kicksbacks in a row yesterday when trying to invite a friend… today was a constant loop of failures with my opponent in a black void and me as the inviter just being kickbacked to the main menu… We both just quit the game and called it a day)
No I’m not going to make a video and email you… clearly this is a issue across the board (pun intended) of which has been mentioned the most recent reviews, so please get your developers working on a fix.
Still love the game but it needs a patch… and FAST.
Its great. The only improvements I see that are needed are as follows. More control over who we play against as far as human opponents. If you're rated 2000 you shouldn't get matched up against 14,15,16,17,18 hundred rated players. Not saying that they aren't very good players its just that if you win you don't gain mu h at all. But if you lose you lose a lot. Also a more accurate ratings system like ICC or Chess .com. A few more Avatars (or custom) would be great. Other than that I really enjoy this app. I play it more than any other game.

Now a meaty game with 4 environments. I reviewed this when the game launched, and I'm now revising my review in Dec 2022 following the 'Parks & Clocks' patch/update. Originally I said that the game was 5 stars but it needed more substance. There have been several updates since then and I can now say that all my niggles about this game have been reviewed, and that the 4 included environments are sufficient for a standalone/complete game.
For me, the hands tracking ver 2 by Meta for it's Quest 1 & 2 O/S had the biggest impact in terms of game improvement. I always play using my hands as this feels most natural. The O/S hand tracking update means there is hardly any issue while moving a piece. Game on!
2 player invite. When I invite my granddaughter to play we both end up with a black screen when entering a room together. We’ve tried various ways to enter the room but nothing works. And I’m at the point where I’m going to ask for a refund for the both of us as I paid for both, so. If there’s no fix soon this is what I will do.
Beautiful Chess Game. I’ve played several VR chess games. This one is the best one for the Quest 2. It would be nice to have the option to use unique designer style chess pieces and boards like those offered in Chess Ultra on the PSVR. Some bugs can occur with multiplayer, but the devs seem to work on those fixes as needed.
DO NOT BUY. Absolutely loved this game but with most recent updates multiple player does not work anymore. Used to crash maybe 1 out of 4 games which is bad enough but now every game is black screen. You can tell by reviews developers don't want to do anything. I'm not taking a video when you know exactly what's happening. Waste of money until it's fixed.
No longer works in two player mode. Chess Club used to be great. I always played in two player mode but recently it stopped working. I can enter the lobby and select a game then the screen goes black and can only hear the sound of the fire in Stonehenge. I have reinstalled the app but it still does not work in two player mode.
To developers. Finally, the game I’ve been looking for.. I’ve been playing chess for 20 years and have to say I genuinely enjoy this game. But there is a few easy fixes I feel like you could implement to improve the game.
1. As someone who loves the game of chess, I would say most people would prefer the standard tournament chess pieces and this should be an option to play with on any map. And for example if I want to see the standard chess pieces in my headset but the other player wants to see fancy pieces I feel like that should be possible.. but that may be harder to implement.
2. This is a small one that I wish most games had but maybe an adjustment setting where you can move the board away from you or closer to you.. for example if I’m playing on my couch sometimes the board feels to close to me and I’ll have to re adjust and move in real life or reset the view on oculus.. when I feel like you could just add a slight seat adjustment to move your avatar slightly forward or slightly back
3. I can never find anyone to play with online but probably due to being a small community.. so maybe if possible create an online menu where you can host open games for people to join.. rather than us just sit waiting for a match.. that way I could log in and just see if anyone is waiting for an opponent to play and join.
4. Atleast for when playing the AI there should still be an option to take back a move before hitting your clock, I realize this isn’t allowed in standard chess tournament rules however for VR I think most players would agree they should be able to take back the move if they have not hit the clock yet, and possibly you could add a setting for online play to where both players can agree to allow take backs as long as they did not press there clock. Again not standard chess rules but I think everyone would agree for VR chess rules.
Other than that.. I love the game! Please more maps/rooms and more variations of standard chess pieces rather than fantasy pieces or fancy pieces atleast in my opinion
Good start. It's a nice app and game, the clocks and park update is visually beautiful. Overall the game is nice and the gameplay is usually smooth. Plenty of room for improvement though and hopefully the developers will make some additions to it.
1) often difficult to find a game and can sometimes be mismatched at both ends of the scale. I suppose this is down to volume of players online..
2)analysis mode no way to review progress or analyse games, it would be a welcome addition as would a tutorial mode going through openings and challenges or puzzles
3) tournaments would be interesting both online and off and even a range of offline bots getting more difficult as you progress might add some drama to the game.
4) missing a community, some for of lobby, and ability to spectate other games or just chat outside of games might add depth.
Overall it's stunning and is nice to nip in for a quick game with a friend but the overall experience lacks a little depth that would immerse and keep people engaged in the longer term.
Thankfully the flaws in the experience are obvious and I hope the developers are backed to make the improvements I am sure they want to make.
Game will not load/problem fixed. Something about the latest update prevents game from loading. Please fix it. OK…So first, thanks for a quick response to the issue I reported. Second, my appreciation for accurately discovering a correct solution. Now I will get back to getting my a$$ handed to me at level 10. I really enjoy this game
Requires Internet. Update: To this day it still offers no offline mode and that’s a shame I can’t get into a game I payed for If I’m not able to play when the power goes out or if the internet goes down. I regret buying this game and can never enjoy or recommend it until it offers offline mode as well as online mode. The other day power went out 4 days in a row, and if I where heavily involved in this game I would have not been able to play it!
We pay for something and are held captive by a mandatory internet requirement this makes it more like a rental vs actually owing the digital rights to play it as we please. Most all AAA console games have offline play but a simple VR chess game cannot! This is a very bad idea, If high end games support offline mode than so should this game. I want to play with AI offline, many people don’t care to play other people online mode.
I like this game but after buying it I found out it requires Internet. Internet down means you can't play even thought you spent money on it. Good idea!
New update. The new update is amazing , really relaxing environment and no annoying music and the addition of timer is brilliant . Been playing this on and off for a year . More relaxing environments please and maybe a feature to invite freind to watch game.
Can't be played with 1 hand. Firstly, the AI presents a great challenge and makes for a fantastic game.
However the game settings can't be locked in and revert after every match (map/colour/gamemode), even the settings within maps (such as Stonehenge's animation speed).
Voice commands can be used to start a game, but it will only use 1 map (multiplayer excluded) and you cannot change any settings via voice. Stonehenge doesn't have any lettering/numbers around the board though so voice commands are much harder again.
Lastly, it is impossible to play this game using only 1 hand, as the menus all require a 2nd hand press the buttons displayed on the 1st hand. Yes, even turning on voice controls requires 2 hands
Chess school please. This is a great game. Well made from top to bottom. One of the games I keep coming back to on my oculus. My only gripe is that I’m rubbish at chess and wish they had some sort of learning feature. That would make this game amazing. Any chance devs? Please 🙏🏾
WTF…. I updated it now it won’t load. Did a uninstall, reinstall and factory reset. Nothing works and it’s only this app. AND I can’t even repurchase to play!!!

Chess Newbie Here - Update. Update- I am no longer a newbie -- I updated the game and the clocks addition is making the game jump each time. It's very frustrating. Please take a look at this - I am on original Quest. Please allow us to turn the clocks off as well. I was happy with the timer ----- I bought the game a few days ago with a view to learn chess. I have only played the 15 min AI demo at this point, so keep that in mind. I would like to see a mode where you have suggestion on where to move. I know the yellow highlights but a tutorial mode where you are prompted. - think like in a toddler game on your phone. You get a negative sound for a bad move and an extra prompt of some kind if you delay.
I thought from the promo video that there would be animations, but I can see from the comments that it might be in another mode.
Finally, in that demo mode, the door knocking and piano banging is annoying. I don't know enough about the game yet, it might be design... but as a newbie, it's frustrating. I have enough to concentrate on, just learning what each piece does.
Enjoyable With Some Ideas. First off I just gotta say that the designs and aesthetic of this game is absolutely pleasing and feel like I’m somewhere new. I also really love the features without the controllers becoming it feels so natural. However I feel as though it needs be opened with guidance, like maybe ask a question before opening the main menu. Asking if you’re experienced in chess or not and give a bit of a tutorial for people who want to really get into it from a vr standpoint. As well as getting to play with others is an issue with not lots of people playing, which isn’t the developers fault, and that’s okay. I would also love to see a sort of edit feature. Like a different aesthetic you can customize your own and maybe even create your own chess pieces. A really calming and well done game for the quest for people who don’t always need the action.
Brilliant game. This game is awesome, I 100% recommend. You can even go “controller free” (if you have the ‘hands’ acknowledgment app). Really fun… and really nice settings. (I just played at Stonehenge)
