Quite Realistic. I’m a 23 year pilot; Air Force & now an Airline Captain. Got a headset for my son for Christmas & was looking for a few games to pre-load…
I’m impressed. I’m not much of a gamer, but this game is a lot of fun. The physics are decent; it’s not real, but it’s good in all the ways it counts.
I’m sneaking off after he goes to sleep to play some more…

Warplanes World War I.

Warplanes World War I. After exiling myself for 14 years, away from gaming, I got the Oculus Quest II as a gift from my son. At 65 years old, and a pilot, this game is the GOAT. I love the physics of the game play. Sure, a few quirks, but not enough to take away from the fun. I get shot down a lot. LOVE IT!!! RECOMMEND TO ALL.
Realistic! (Read for 25% off). I must admit, I wasn’t expecting much from this game given the low price, but I was instantly surprised at the level of realism and the breadth of content. The controls are intuitive and simple, and the multiplayer is superb. Lots of choice of planes makes it great. Being able to fine-tune the sensitivity of the steering would be ideal, but it’s fine. If you’re looking for a good fighter plane game, this is for you!

Awesome! (read for 25% discount). This game is excellent! Very realistic! You have full control of the plane, you need to increase and decrease speed, take off and land, shoot with the built-in machine guns, launch missiles, use flare guns, etc... There are battles going on around you, and the mood is really immersive! You can either play story mode or quick game mode.

Small upgrades to make even better. Never played flying games ever but thought I’d try this it out and once I adjusted the controls (which could probably use some more customization adjustments on button controls imo) it was hard to stop playing and everyone says they get motion sickness but tbh I get more motion sickness playing pokerstars than this but don’t let the bad reviews change your mind. Also color blind settings would be nice because the oculus settings for it suck just to determine teammates in multiplayer or an option to change the shape that shows the enemy and friendly planes or more customizable options for planes would be cool for future updates like interior stuff but idk lol
VR continues to surprise and excite with new opportunities to entertain and challenge yourself , constantly giving you a very unique perspective of hitherto “impossible to have-a-go” experiences.
Like becoming a WW1 aviator flying a twin-machine gun bi-plane. Crikey!
Of course nothing will ever substitute the reality of this most brutal and destructive form of aerial combat , which must have been a harrowing experience of sheer terror. I never expected Warplanes to replicate this. How could you and would you really want to ? How fortunate we are to just “simulate” the terror. How fortunate.
And on the evidence of my first hour in this excellently detailed experience I know that I would never be “pilot material” and my early death would have been a given in 1914.
The plane cockpits are superbly realised , your viewpoint is crazy ( up down bank pitch roll down up ) , the engagement with enemy fighters is a wild-ride with your eyes on swivels hunting for your adversary who is dodging your every move.
Targeting is hard , very hard at the start because nothing , ever , stays still enough to get a calm bead on your target. And why should it , this is aerial combat and you need to learn , flipping fast , if you intend to survive at all.
Incredible experience and an opportunity , however “safe” I am in the security of my lounge , to try to but barely imagine what it was like for those brave , fearless youngsters who did this for real. Humbling too.
Developers , well done and thank you for the chance.
Perfect. My favorite game by far. This game hits home for family and myself. The gameplay was phenomenal and the graphics were amazing. It’s so good I got my retired Vietnam Veteran Marine Master Sergeant father to play and love the game. His dad was aviation Marine in WWII in the pacific. I was truly thrilled with this. I hope we get more in the future
Hardcore simer's POV. Hey guys, thank you for developing such an incredible game. The graphics are remarkable and the flight model is superb. I'm really enjoying the new options for multiplayer and aircraft customization. You've done a fantastic job!
As a person who has been devoted to flight simulation games for two decades, I would like to share some thoughts.
My primary concern is with the takeoff sequence in the campaign mode. The physics model for taking off and landing (even in the most difficult playing mode) is not realistic enough and after a few missions, the takeoff sequence can become mundane. Making this part of the game more realistic and challenging would greatly improve the overall experience.
My second concern is with the size of the map. I understand that hardware limitations may make this difficult, but if it were possible, it would be great to have missions where the player could take off, navigate, engage in battle, and bring their plane back home safely, all in one go.
Really enjoying this one UPDATED TO 5 *. After playing for months I am updating to 5 stars!! Easily my favorite VR title. I started off in arcade mode and found it challenging….eventually I graduated to real war mode and now I LOVE it!!! It took a lot of experimenting to figure out the basics of flying in real war mode and now I am working on more advanced flying and dogfighting techniques - AI is actually still engaging enough that I haven’t started flying multiplayer….so I expect to be enjoying this for a long time. Latest update was outstanding!! I am finding the immersion level has kicked up a few notches. Please keep working on this title - I would easily pay for upgrades if it keeps the development going.
This is a really fun WWI flight combat simulator. So far I am only doing the single player campaigns so not sure about any of the multiplayer features. I love that you can fly any plane in your squadron and that you can fly off mission - ie if you want to take out AA to make the combat area a little less treacherous or if you want to fly low and draw enemy away from your other pilots you can.
I am loving the game but if I could improve it I would look at:
Take off and landings - they are optional but I like having them on - when they are on the take off and landings are sorta disconnected from the actual mission. Would like the ability to take off and fly to target and then return again all as part of a seamless mission.
Also if I get shot up would like the option of flying back to base and getting partial credit for the mission. (Maybe as an option)
The missions are a little tedious and one mission don’t seem to really progress to another - feels like the missions are randomly assigned rather than part of a continuous campaign. Would like more variety in the landscape and missions - less repeating missions.
Menu screen - I personally don’t like hanging in midair while choosing options. I find it a little distracting. I would like the main screen to start on the ground at one of the bases or something or let me choose a screen in settings. UPDATE: you get used to it - it’s fine.
Radio communication - first off I’m pretty sure they didn’t have air to air radio communication during WWI - at least it wasn’t common. I haven’t found a way to send my pilots on specific tasks - IE attack the base or engage enemy etc…I may not have found it yet. Personally I don’t find the communication helpful and it’s repetitive and annoying after a while so would like to see that go away if I can’t order my pilots to do tasks anyways.
UPDATE: would like each AI pilot to have a different voice - I have grown to like the radio but it would be more immersive if the calls for help and stuff were discernible as individual pilots
Overall this was totally worth the retail price. It does have a lot of replay value I think and I would love to see a sequel - like I said I am not nearly done checking it out so will update if there’s anything else I run into that’s worth mentioning.
Finally would like a flight tutorial in simulation mode. I suck at flying (you can stick to leisure mode if your not into the realistic flight) and would like to learn how other than trial and error.
Solid game - would love to see it expanded and/or a sequel
This Game is Great! I purchased warplanes battles over pacific first and it was really good but, hard. I recently purchased Warplanes WW1 and it's Amazing. It plays a lot better than the second one as, it's slower. Dropping bombs by hand is really fun and dog fights are incredible as you can stay on the tail of the bad guys a lot easier.
What we really need is The Battle of Britain!!!! Flying Spitfires and Hurricanes doing battle in the skys above the Cliffs of Dover.
Lancaster bombers doing the Dam Busters mission. It would be just like the trench run from Starwars as that is what Lucas got the inspiration from. All round top Game!
My favourite game on Quest 2. This game is brilliant since the 4.0 update. Multiplayer servers are very active, and there are decals and ranks to unlock now. New graphics overhaul is also very impressive. I hope it gets a lot more updates in the future. I'd personally like to see more planes. And probably more customization that isn't just visual. Game is well worth the money
A Must Have Game!!!! I have played this game everyday for over a week and haven't gotten board.I got it on sale for 12.99 and to be honest it holds up way better then the games I have baught for over 40 and don't live up to replayability. This is a GEM! Plenty of missions to play. Planes are fun to fly and have simple controls.I really like shooter games but never thought I'd love a plane game.So if you can handle flying this game is a absolute must have. The graphics are great in most areas .So I really recommend warplanes.Theres so much to do on this without breaking the bank and it's definitely a bargain..
Warplanes. Outstanding game, some missions are tricky at the beging of the campaign but when upgrading your plane as it gets stronger you feel the dynamics and the guns power, the backdrops throughout the game are breathtaking, from day to night(as you see bullet tracers) to sunny England lol. It makes you realise how the war was fought,if u put on oculus linear buds or muffs and a fan 2ft infront of you whilst seated it then becomes a 5D experience in my opinion a top 3 game so far.
Astoundingly Amazed. I have a hard time explaining to everybody how amazingly fun this game is to me ! I cannot stop laughing and I enjoy all the company that comes with the game. This was something that brings the childhood giggles out!
Strongly recommend it for older people who used to be gamers and ones that were not!
The best game on Quest?. I'd argue this is the best game available on Quest. (Particularly Quest 1). The visuals are gorgeous. The sense of sitting in a real cockpit is uncanny.
The choice of WW1 era is perfect for Quest VR because the aircraft are very simple with few controls - so simple "stick and throttle" flying seems authentic.
I think later eras would be harder to make work with the Quest control interface in such an authentic way to be honest.
There are moments this game can take your breath away with realism of the immersion experience.
Downsides: Having done what you would think was the hard bit so well, the game let's itself down on some game design aspects: Campaign missions can be repetitive, and it would be nice if there was more narrative to make you feel you are moving through the war as you play the campaign.
30 years ago I played a WW1 game called "knights of the sky" which had some wonderfully immersive elements outside the flying - you could "read the paper" to see how the war was going, and develop rivialrys with the fighter aces of the day who would pop up in the game (The Red Baron, Max Immalmen etc).
It's a shame a game which is as immersive in the cockpit as this didn't build the world outside it to deepen that immersion into WW1. M Also, while your wingmen can abandon a fight if they get damaged, you cannot. You have to stay to either mission completion or till you die, which is kind of limiting to the game strategy.
It also jars the realism. Mission is "destroy 10 enemy bombers". You shoot down 9 (which in the real world would be an extraordinary feat) but you are badly shot up, but have no option but to try to shoot down the last one and die in the process.
Which leads to my final gripe! The kill counts are too high. A pilot who shot down 5 to 10 enemy aircraft would be considered an Ace in real life. In this game you'll rack up literally hundreds of kills in your first few missions. That's fine for an "arcade" mode, but it would have been nice to have a real campaign mode where the number of kills was more believable.
However, all that said, at this stage, VR is still very much about just that "wow factor" novelty of experiencing a sense of immersion. And this game does that better than any other VR game right now.
Great game. Great game. Nice and realistic controls. Reminds me a lot of the old Amiga game “ Wings” . I really like the difference between the planes when it comes to visibility and steering. A boost of the campaign games and an interesting storyline would be a next feature. Btw…when out of bombs, shooting tanks is quite the challenge (from a time consuming perspective ;)
Love this game.. This game is dope.. I'm loving it. It's difficult to play and takes a while to learn but I like that. I got out for 12 bucks or so. Well worth it, right now it's probably my favorite game. I've been playing it for a while now I'll update this with details when I get back from Normandy 😜
Good but steep learning curve?. Seems like lots of "potential", if you can stomach the VR motion experience while teaching yourself to fly a biplane.
For once in gaming history, I was expecting more tutorial instructions - at least an option to run through how to fly a WWI plane most effectively with turning and tracking a target.
The first 20 minutes was mostly flying in circles trying hopelessly to figure out where the enemy went, how to catch up, and how to shoot them down before I once again sped by.
And fair warning that "comfort: intense" is not to be taken lightly - in my efforts to finally down the enemy plane, I accidentally moved my gun aim one way, my head and vision another, while also trying to turn and slow the engine. That was over a half hour ago and the world hasn't quite stopped spinning 😅
Great game but a big shortcoming. Overall this is an amazing game. The sense of being in the air feels so real you can almost feel the wind. Dogfighting is so much fun and the environment with clouds and water are amazing.
For the big shortcoming. The scale of the size of the plane and all ground objects are way off. As you come in for a landing on an airstrip the buildings and cars are too small. When diving down to attack a ship. Which is so fun btw, the scale is just way off. It’s like shooting at a matchbox. Hey developers are you listening ?
Best plane game on quest. This game is perfect for people who find historic warfare interesting and people who like planes, the flight controls, are very realistic and immersive, and there is many different game settings for people anywhere to where you’re just starting out to pro pilots. Overall this game is one of the best games I’ve ever played on quest 1,000,000 out of 10.
