Fantastic. 65yo and been a gamer for decades. Decided to give VR a try and purchased a Quest 2 after seeing reviews for Red Matter. Loved that game and the VR experience, and both didn't disappoint. Purchased Red Matter 2 after it came out, and have found it even better than the first game. The developers have done a fantastic job and it is a real credit to them. I have played it right through and will go back to play again. Highly recommend this game to anyone.
Best Quest 2 game overall?. I’m a veteran VR enthusiast and have owned other VR headsets, Sony deserves the crown for the best titles hands-down.
Coming to the Quest 2 has been an eye opener in regards to freely moving around with no cables and better resolution.
When it comes to atmospherics and beauty, I found no title that was able to match the aforementioned competitor yet. The Quest 2 is awesome for exercise (Les Mills, FitXR) and rhythm/music games (Audio Trip, Synth Rider, Beat Sabre, Pistol whip) but I was missing entering worlds and universes and really feeling “there”. With real presence and wonder like in my earlier PSVR days.
Red Matter 2 was the game that gave me this. It gave me afternoons I spent mentally almost “preparing” for switching on the headset and entering a new universe; it gave me lifelike environments and breathtaking sceneries and incredibly believable architecture that gave me a full sense of place, chills, awe and wonder. EI “was” there, and I took my time and cherished spending time in this alternate dimension.
I will recommend starting with Red Matter 1 first, which was also how I did it. The story is very atmospheric and engaging with the beautiful and lovingly recreated Soviet era murals and ephemera and buildings, so you’ll slowly find your way into it by playing the first instalment first.
The 2nd game is a game changer: the graphics are even better, even more immersive; movement is even more varied; the developers have put even more loving care and stylistic coherence into the game; it is considerably longer, with more content; there is an incredible narrative arch; the game suddenly adds a really exhilarating and demanding action element after the first half of the game when you fight flying robot drones (I still wonder if it’d be nice to be able to make them optional because when you enjoy the quiet spaces and solitary landscapes and atmosphere, all the combat challenge and energy level can somewhat detract from that, but then it feels even better and like a real reward once you’ve passed that stage as well).
There are only two or three VR games I regularly think about still, and want to revisit, like an old friend or a place we have memories with. Two of them are Sony titles, and the third is Red Matter 2 (and 1, by association).
I hope the developers are proud of what they achieved, it is an incredible feast of stylishness, quality, atmosphere, beauty and intelligence. Thank you for this world - will you let us know if you got a 3rd part in the works? :)
Great buy! This game was amazing. I was really impressed with the story line and the graphics. It takes you out of reality while playing the game, it's like a mini escape from life as you know it. I was hooked and played as much as I could to find out what was next and what puzzle was next to solve. I got stuck a couple of times but that's what made me coming back. A must have in my book, hope somehow they can make a red matter 3 in the future
Cinematic and immersive must-play sequel. Awesome visuals, the best we will see on the Quest2: Lighting, texture quality, reflections, flickerings, everything is pushing the hardware to the absolute limits. But not only the visuals, also story, puzzles and fighting are top-notch and satisfying.
Red Matter 2 offers several situations where you either drop your jaw or you just 'wow'/laugh about the genius of a certain puzzle or situation. Fighting against droids later in the game let the pulse pump due to dodge and hide and reminds on the Combine shooting in Half Life Alyx - some other game and environment elements obviously served as inspiration too ;-)
And - which is sooo great - it's sometimes a bit spooky but zero jumpscares. I love how responsible the developers are, to not misuse this adventure with jumpscares. You can feel completely safe by doing anything!
There is nothing comparable on the Quest 2, this is an unique must-play cinematic experience, where you only can salute the genius of the development team! If one liked Red Matter 1, Part 2 is a no-brainer! In case Red Matter 1 is unknown, those are the relevant checkmarks: Best Q2 visuals (which will never be beaten), puzzle solving, cinematic surroundings, cinematic sound & compositions, engaging story, slow paced gameplay, little but intense droid shooting.

Best played with family! Played with family over Thanksgiving break...streamed to big screen so everyone could watch, laugh, jeer, give advice, etc. Changed players in the helmet every 15 mins or so. Played Red Matter 1 and 2 back to back.
Fantastic graphics (jaw dropping level), great controls, great story and adventure, and fun challenging puzzles that weren't too frustrating to solve. We managed to solve everything without resorting to Google - although some puzzles required swapping out players to figure them out so it inspired a good deal of competition.
It doesn't have replay value for us, but we had so much fun as a family with it that it was money very well spent.
Advice: use options to set movement to teleport. The default movement was making everyone sea sick. Teleport setting fixed that.
Absolute Must Have! This game if you haven't played it will show you what VR is capable of. Seriously, even on Quest 2, the graphics are beyond incredible and will have you forgetting what room you are playing in. I would get both of them as both are great games. I like Red Matter 2 a little more, but Red Matter is also very fun. Very glad purchases.

Half Life Alyx on the Questと対をなすものです。
I am speachless ! ! ! This game replaced my previously favorite game "After Life". I am so happy that this is a game on the Quest! THIS is the counterpart to Half Life Alyx on the Quest. The Graphics are stunning!!!! The BEST you have on a Quest up to date!! We also have to talk about the details in this game!! Like the floating bubbles from the red matter and everything. It really was eye candy to look at all the effort that has went into this game! I could definitely tell! And I absolutely appreciate the effort!!! It leaves all those many many indie games that we have on a Meta Quest and that I am getting so tired of far behind! Having this game on the Quest clearly shows that it IS possible to make great looking and amazing games without the need to compromise on this Stand-alone Headset!! There is no more excuse for other publishers!!! Red Matter 2 proved it!!
The only thing that I didn't like too much was the combat. BUT (!!!) I absolutely love that it was even added to the game in first place!!!! I just wished the gun was a bit more powerful or prezise as it was close to getting frustrated to beat some enemies at some point since only shooting at the small head from a far was not so easy when there where several enemies at once. But it was okay anyway. Nothing too bad. Just a thought... The Gameplay is amazing!!!! The Story is exciting!!!! I loved this soooooo much!!! And I also have to mention that I really loved the puzzles this time!!! I was able to solve all of them myself without getting frustrated!! It had the absolut perfect difficult level for me! (Which was not the case in the first episode - Red Matter 1.. as I often got frustrated and also the Story didn't really interested me)
I also loved that this time we saw human faces in the game! I didn't feel so alone like in RM1.
So the only thing that I wish for a sequel is – make it longer 🤩
This game is my personal substitute for Half Life Alyx on the Meta Quest ! Thank you for making this happen!
Time n Money Well Spent. Red Matter was amazing and Red Matter 2 lives up to all expectations. It's exceptional with a new set of puzzles to challenge and enthuse. New problems, wonderful GFX and new action to immerse and enthral.
I've loved every minute of gameplay absolutely my kinda game with a decent narrative to it..
Red Matter 3 ( here's hoping!! ) will be a no brainer one of the few games i wont mind the full price of.
Amazing 🤩 best experience on Oculus. I have RM1 and loved it, so purchased RM2. The developers have really outdone themselves. Everything about this experience is top notch, the graphics, the sound, interactions and game play problem solving. Absolutely worth the price! Like participating in a movie. Kudos to the design team, can’t wait for RM3!!!
Stunningly good. Haven't finished the game yet but am a few hours into it, it's a beautiful game that looks fantastic on the Quest 2. Some of the vistas are so beautiful that I find myself stopping to take in the view and just sit a while. The scale feels epic. The puzzles are challenging but not impossible, the story engaging, and of course the graphics are possibly the best on this platform to date. A must buy for fans of adventure, puzzle, story and Sci Fi games although I'd argue that most gamers would find something to love here.
One of a kind. I rarely put 5 stars but this game deserves it. Graphically speaking you will not find better on the quest, it is magnificient. At first I was skeptical about two things: The grabbing mechanic because I like to grab things with my own hands but no, the mechanic blends perfectly with the gameplay. Secondly, I was scared this would be just another puzzle game with a cliché story but again, no. The story is absoluetly amazing in fact it gave me chills towards the end. Amazing twist too. 30$ seemed expensive for a non replayable game but this price is more than fair. We can really feel the effort put in it. Easily the best solo game on quest as of right now.
Masterpiece. Imagine Half-Life Alyx in space with a focus on puzzles- that’s Red Matter 2. It expands on just about every aspect of the original Red Matter; puzzle variety, platforming, combat, mazes and story length. In particular, I loved traveling and discovering new locations in this game. There are stunning vistas and expansive areas to traverse which lead to unique and mysterious new areas. This feeling of discovery along with the enigmatic story provided the key motivation for me to finish the game. The puzzles are logical, fair and can usually be solved by simply observing your surroundings. There are also a wide variety of unique puzzles as well as some reoccurring ones so the puzzle solving doesn’t get stale nor too difficult. Toward the latter part of the game, they do get a bit more complex, however clues are scattered throughout, in the form of documents and scanning them usually provides enough information to solve. A few puzzles are immensely satisfying and absolutely brilliant. I also found the combat fun, challenging, realistic and it helped break the monotony of puzzle solving- not to mention provide stress relief. I would often blast bottles, buttons, lamps and basically everything in the room just because well…why not! Red Matter 2 is definitely a must play and easily the best game I’ve played all year. If the devs are listening, I did experience frequent crashes on the Quest Pro however I’m not sure if this was unique to that headset or perhaps mine in particular.
Fantastic Game! I'm 62 yrs old, and my type of games are these! Red Matter and Red Matter 2 are clever, so detailed, absolutely the best graphics, the most entertaining, and keeps your brain working. I would say Red Matter and Red Matter 2 take two spots in my top 5 list. I would highly recommend because they are well worth the money. I hope there's a Red Matter 3 and I hope it comes with alternative endings, because I would play again and again!
Top Notch Immersion. VR fabulous! I loved Red Matter 1 so I hopped on the presale of this one. Vast improvements. Crisp graphics. Interactive and free moving. Feels so real. Arms and hand visuals are great. Puzzles are a good medium difficulty. Movement is like a jet pack. My only downfall is the jerky turns make me nauseous. Smoother would be kinder. Teleportation would be nice too, altho floating from place to place gives it a more realistic experience. Self-paced games are the best IMP and this one doesn’t disappoint. 👌👌👌
More Please 😁. Im a newbie to VR.,and gaming in general (im old 😆) Some games ive tried have been underwhelming in story and/or graphics. This game ,both 1 and 2, are excellent. The attention to detail and story are next level. The voice actors did a great job. The game is just challenging enough to make it very entertaining but not frustrating, so that you give up. And if you do die or fail, it only takes you back a few steps in the game. Very intuitive, life like, and user friendly. Anybody could play this and be up to speed in no time. Great job, development team Please, make more(any genre)....soon 😉
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I not only love this game, but am also impressed by what it managed to achieve on the Quest 2 platform. It’s an incredibly well-balanced puzzle/platformer/shooter that feels refined and is one of the best titles to show off what Meta’s flagship headset can do. The only reason to not pick this up is if you DESPISE puzzlers, but if you have any passing interest in that genre, don’t mind a little shooter action to spice things up or just want to show off what current gen VR can look like, do not pass this one up.

WRITTEN REVIEW https://www.thevrgrid.com/red-matter-2/
Ruined Every Other VR Game For Me! So what is the matter with Red Matter 2? Absolutely nothing! My job when doing reviews is to find mess ups and boy with so many games they are obvious and I could list 100 things after 10 minutes of playtime but with Red Matter 2 everything is just soooo perfect! I mean any moron could see the graphics are good. And don't get me wrong, they are good. They are PCVR level good. but it goes further than that. Good graphics don't matter if what you're staring at is garbage. But these environments. Ohhh sweet Jesus these environments are breathtaking. The game begins with you waking up from the events of the original Red Matter still playing as Sasha but with your conscience in the body of your captor. Guided by an undercover operative who goes by the name Beta, you escape your captivity on the moon and infiltrate a secret research facility that orbits Saturn after getting a mysterious distress signal from one of your former colleagues. Upon entering the facility you are presented with puzzles, first person shooter action, and a great sci-fi story that will have you at the edge of your seat.

Best adventure game on quest platform. PROOF AT LAST, after two years since the launch of quest 2 that top quality games with triple AAA graphics, physics and all the trimmings and no noticeable compromises can be made with the mobile chipset on board. For this reason alone it makes the very top tier.
I'm gonna keep this brief because everyone at this point should be well aware of this, but the graphics and physics finally deliver the kind immersion that I admittedly have found lacking sometimes, with too many games with cartoon or artsy graphics. Although great when done well, they just don't put you "there" like a game that really tries it's darndest to look and feel real.
The story and gameplay is a refreshing change of pace to the many run and gun games in vr at the moment, and allows you to soak in an atmosphere that just cannot be replicated outside of the vr medium. It's at times like living out 2001:A Space Odyssey, with huge vistas and views that sometimes you just have to take a moment to enjoy and appreciate it. The puzzles are at times difficult if you're not fully observing your surroundings, using the hand scanner or passing over the blue prints/instructionals but as long as you take everything in they're all very much do-able. Plus, if you just can't figure it out there's resources outside of the game that will show you the way in no time.
For once, a game that's purported to push the quest 2 to its limits has surpassed my expectations and with no performance drawback in-game to boot. It's a lazy comparison but I've played half life alyx and it was one of the few Wow moments I've had in vr. It felt like the game(HL:A) was a full length, engrossing proof of concept on what could be done at the time. This is up there in that bracket, easily. Any games I have in my wish list now(looking at you bonelab) have a very high bar to reach after red matter 2 and big studios now have less excuses to be this ambitious and deliver this standard. If it can be done once it can be done again.
If you like the genre please do not miss out on this, it's worth every 5 star review it has and is comfortably the most beautiful, ambitious and in my opinion, best game on the quest platform
