Don't waste your money. First thing I bought and can say very unimpressed, it's a computer generated graphics thing and completely boring and pointless.
So great. I really liked this, the presentation was just right, the world felt real, dirty and dangerous. It was like watching a movie, but being in the room with the characters, who were all great. If the Battle Scars make an album, I want the vinyl.
A story well told. Through the magic of VR, an average story becomes interesting. The characters are all voiced by one narrator, she does a stellar job!
The only downside is that the three chapters are all short. Short and sweet. Perhaps better than a long and less impactful tale would have been? The art style, models and effects are impressive. It is a shame they didn’t also create an interactive game using the same assets.
All in all, if you like Punk, this is a must own title.
Library of Realities.com review:. Battlescar: Punk Was Invented by Girls is an animated virtual reality short film set in 1978's New York City, focusing on struggles in young life and finding identity. The tricks of VR are used well here to keep the viewer engaged as the story of two teen girls unfolds, depicting life on the dangerous and grim city streets while striving for expression through punk rock music.
The camera is rarely in the same place twice as scenes cut between immersive shots, overhead views and animated sets that play with scale and look like miniature stages. Text and doodles from the main character's journal hit the screen as they punctuate and echo the dialog of the story and the emotion. Great color and lighting sets the atmosphere, though we found visuals to be lacking in detail and design flair, particularly on the principal characters. Thankfully Rosaria Dawson's masterful vocal performance lends a depth to the characters that makes up for any shortfall in the graphics.
It's hard to find a new tale to tell and Battlescar's 30 minute story is somewhat generic, though thankfully the high production values keep this short film interesting throughout. We were a little underwhelmed by the ending however - the final act took a turn that lacked foreshadowing or reason in a way that felt under developed.
Battlescar is available on Meta Quest and Oculus Rift devices. Though it's also available on Steam, reports suggest that the app will not function on non-meta headsets so we can't recommend it on that platform. Controllers aren't needed for this app, and though snap-turning is not available it is mostly unnecessary as all the scenes are positioned within a 180 degree viewing angle.
✅ Story told in an engaging way with plenty of VR tricks. ✅ Excellent voicework by Rosario Dawson. ❌ Unlikey to work on non-Meta headsets.
What a trip. This is actually great experience. We need more works like this. It's something new and unique for me, which is cool. Story and narration are excellent, I liked visual metaphors and inventive design. I wonder when we'll start getting entire vr films. That would be something
Help. Bought this as it said no Internet connection required, im currently offline due to my phones hotspot being unable to connect back to my q2 headset.. At start it says qued, will start when a wifi connection is available? its been 3weeks since my connection stopped. I'd bought my q2 6weeks ago,ive no wifi and was able to use my phones hotspot for 3weeks,even to set the headset up i used hotspot. Any help to connect would be appreciated.
Battlesscar. It amazes me on how this incredible Story selling so cheap … this is my favourite one so far . I was once a Punk myself … I wished they d do more like it … if s also visually stunning… I love it soooo much .
What a great moving experience! I really recommend this production. It has energy it has a great social and individual wonderful message. Love this visuals, the music and the story. Congrats!! 🙌💕🇵🇷
Loved the artistic direction and VR narr. The film’s art direction reinvent itself every few moments, moving from trainset dioramas and animated comic strips to first-person views and hand-scrawled animations in the blink of an eye.
Only thing that could have been better is the Voice over interpretation.
I really like it. I enjoy watching vr movies and this one is awesome i love the graphics the only complaint i have is i had to turn my head a little bit too far for comfort but other than that its perfect
Not for me. Giving it three stars, the artwork was good and can't fault the effort put into this. However I really didn't enjoy the style used and the story was nothing to write about. In fact I kept looking to see how long was left, because it was only 45 mins long that I watched it all, longer would have been off. Can understand people liking it, but aound a fiver for 45mins and to me boring(could be my age lol) left a nasty taste that I won't try anymore.
PS I do understand that these things are niche and only has a small audience and not complaining about spending a fiver for something, but when it does nothing for you, after all the reviews I read with positives might have heightened my expectations and failed to deliver.
Excellent VR Storytelling. Fantastic punk rock allegory of kick-a$$ women told through the fullest capability of VR. Especially adored the conceptualisation of Elda throughout. 🤟
