Fun for mobility challenged. I’ve been playing for a few years now. I am medically disabled due to spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia and a few other issues. I now play on expert and get perfects quite often. I’m constantly amazed with the music. I have all the DLC’s and my families the Electro Swing one best. I’m able to play this standing or sitting, as long as I can move my arms freely. Sometimes I’ll even use ankle and wrist weights to get a better workout. I play other rhythm games as well, but I like how flexible this one is. I play with different ways to hit the notes, which also has a benefit of using other muscles. I recommend this for anyone.
My go-to rhythm game! It's impossible to write a review for Synth Riders without comparing it to that other rhythm game Beat Saber - you might have heard of it. ;)
I was looking for a rhythm game that engages more of my body - Beat Saber only really engages my arms and is taxing on my shoulders and wrists to the extent that I've picked up a minor injury playing it - and it turns out Synth Riders is the perfect fit. It's now my go-to game for when I'm looking for an all-round fun workout.
Some of the differences between Synth Riders and Beat Saber I think are important:
Difference in favour of Synth Riders: * There are four types of notes, not just Beat Saber's two (left hand or right hand), as well as rails; * As mentioned above, Synth Riders engages your whole body without overtaxing a specific body part. * Built-in support for custom maps! Whenever I get bored with the in-game maps I can find custom maps online. To be fair, it takes some trial and error to find the really good custom maps, but about half of my favourite maps are custom maps, so it's definitely worth the effort. * You can't accidentally hit a note with the wrong hand (with one minor exception), which I think makes for more varied maps.
Differences in favour of Beat Saber: * In Beat Saber scoring, streak length plays a much smaller role - it's possible to beat a Full Combo score with an imperfect game by improving accuracy. This is virtually impossible to do in Synth Riders. * Beat Saber has a wider difficulty range - I've been playing BS for more than a year and there are still Expert levels I can't get Full Combos on, and some Expert+ levels I can't complete. In Synth Riders, the only songs I've failed to complete at its most difficult setting on first try have been custom maps. (Note: with the Muse and Lindsey Stirling song packs, Synth Riders have improved on this difficulty range.)
The only thing I play. Okay for reference, I’m a 47 year old outdoorsy type active female (hiking, backpacking, etc). I’m not a super fit exercise fanatic by any means. (I wear my sloth shirt when I hike. haha) I have older kids and look like a regular mom. I live in a colder climate that puts me indoors most of the year. I absolutely love this app for exercise! Like most, I started with Beat Saber, but I only sometimes play it now. I always play Synth Riders. Why? It definitely gets my heart pumping, and there is tons of variety so I never get bored. At first when I was starting out on this app I used it equally among other exercise apps, but the others got boring. When I would start to get bored with this one, I would go into settings and the extra stuff and start messing around. Wow! I discovered all kinds of cool things, and things that still kick my trash. Some settings will challenge your balance. Those are trippy. I like the variety of music. Thank you so much for adding Lindsey! I would love more of that. There’s just so much you can do in this app to keep it interesting. If you ever start to get bored then you haven’t explored enough. I know I’m not done yet. With all the praises though, there are a few things I really wish would be added? fixed? whatever the word is. One, it would be nice to be able to just play a whole music pack nonstop (with shuffle mode too). I looked and looked and can’t find where I can do that. So I have to create a playlist to play a music pack nonstop (which I love btw. I can exercise to whatever music without pausing to choose the next song, and I can make several playlists. Beat Saber doesn’t have that). Two, it would be nice (but not a deal breaker) to have creative one handed levels. I tore my rotator cuff and could only play one handed for awhile. I found how to do that, but it was so boring because it was just the same thing minus the other hand and double hands. (Beat Saber has you beat there, but you have them beat on leg squats.) Three, it would be nice if it told me right after playing a song if I beat my record or not. (Even if I’m playing in one of my lists nonstop.) I’ve played this app so much I’m at Master level ranking globally in the top 100-200s in most of my favorites. So now it’s become a goal to beat my own scores, but hard to keep track. Like Beat Saber it would be nice to just have a party popping sound or something to tell me I have a new high score (because I don’t care what the score actually is, just that I did better). I think that was mostly it. Like I said, I’m not done exploring this awesome app because there’s tons of variety. I love love playing this. My family says I look like I’m doing Karate sometimes (minus the legs I guess). They’re weird. This is fun. Get it and enjoy!
Beyond incredible Rhythm experience. When I first saw Synth Riders, I blew it off. After all, I already had Beat Saber, and that was my go to Rhythm game. But one day I saw Synth Riders on sale, and decided to take the plunge. Absolutely worth it! If you're on the fence, feel confident in purchasing it.
It helps that I'm already a big fan of the Synth genre of music, but I don't think that's going to matter for a lot of people because of how much fun it is to play this game. At first, you'll feel a bit clumsy, the movement will feel unnatural and restrictive, but it will all be timed well and to the beat. After your first play session you'll come back and want nothing more than to improve and master your favorite songs.
As I became more in tune with how I was moving my body and interacting with the game in subsequent play sessions, the game started to feel less restrictive, and it starts to feel like you're out on that platform just dancing away with the developers in these songs. On Master difficulty, every note is punching to the beat, every Synth is a delightful slide across the tracks, and you can't help but add in your own moves freestyle, as you're just vibing to the beat... from the journey to Master difficulty, to feeling like you you can dance to any song without skipping a beat, Synth Riders is a blast to play, and that's in a way I'd argue no other VR rhythm game will ever be able to surpass, period. The songs, mechanics, and everything else are indeed THAT well designed.
There's incredible songs in every pack to where you should be able to find a few favorites across the board, and I HIGHLY recommend the electro swing, all of those tracks and their song maps are GOD TIER. The MUSE Experience is one of my ALL TIME favorite VR moments, and the skill ceiling is really quite high. Plus, it makes for a great work out.
While I think Synth Riders may feel a bit niche to recommend to many, I believe it's well worth the dive, even if you think you've already found your favorite VR rhythm game.
LOVE ITだけど...。 このゲーム大好きです！運動不足解消にもなりました！運動に入る前の有酸素運動に使っていますし、ダンスも大好きです。
LOVE IT but…. I love this game, it’s even helped me exercise more, I use it for cardio before getting into my workout and I love the dancing aspect of it.
But why the 4 stars?
I played the demo for 2 weeks before buying it in which it lets you play 1 song for each of their “genres”(albums? Packs?) and even though I was not a fan of all of them, I loved electro swing and a bit of dubstep so I bought the whole game.
Even though I was really hyped, I got a bit disappointed of the setlist. Out of all of the songs I maybe have enjoyed like 10 of them 15 tops?
It has a lot to do with your musical taste but I’d advice to check the official setlist before you buying it. I don’t regret buying it at all, just I thought I’d get more for my money.
With that said, I am for sure getting the electro swing DLC. I’d even love the idea of the developers releasing full games dedicated to just one genre, 50 songs of pure electro swing? Count me in for the pre-order!
Love this game. This is my favourite game, i play it almost every day. It's so much fun and I am much fitter than when I started. It gives an almost full body workout. I'm not so keen on some of the music but I'm 68 lol so my music tastes are old fashioned but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the game.
Absolutely incredible - WoW! Let me start by saying … I have a PSVR, rift cv1 , rift s, quest 1 and three quest 2’s. Hundreds of games and been playing them all daily for nearly a decade now in one way or another. I have NEVER ONCE written a review. This has to be said about this game ….
Of course I’d seen this game over the years. Many times considered getting it but to me it just didn’t look that special. I figured I’m sure it’s cool. I’ll play it 1-2 hours and never touch it again like most games.
Boy did I miss out until now. I’ve now got 3 days of playing this masterpiece and I can’t say it to enough people with enough energy to make people understand this is hands down the best rhythm game ever made. And I mean all the way back to guitar hero days I’ve played every single one. We are massive fans of the genre in this home as we are all musicians.
Do not assume this is like beat saber. Do not assume anything. Because until you have played this you just can’t know how incredible it is across the board. And probably the best part is the incredible music !!! For me to not have heard of indie groups or artists with music this good ? Happens once every few years. This has so many I’m shocked.
Not only did I get possibly the best VR game ever made I also have months of music to listen to in the real world from this exposing me to such incredible artists. THANK YOU for making this incredibly unique experience. I can’t get enough. It’s ruining my life lol.
More fun than I was expecting. Beat Saber was my first Oculus game and I *wrongly* assumed this game would just seem like a duplicate. Both great games, with similarities but also very different. I love the multiple levels of each song and the various ways to earn points (target & force). I’ve only had the app a week, but I’m 5 stars in love. It’s so much fun!!
Best game ever. I absolutely love this game! Of all the rhythm games I have tried, this is by far the best and by far my favorite. I have to limit myself regarding how long I play this per day, because I started to get knee pain from playing it 90 minutes or more, that's how addictive it is. It's absolutely brilliant and you will love it.
My favorite game/workout at the moment! This game is awesome! It's so fun you don't even realize you are getting a workout! I woke up the next day with sore arms and abs! Hahaha so awesome! I love the multiplayer and that we can download a bunch of free songs easily by transferring the files from pc to the oculus! I would definitely recommend it if you want kinda like a music dance workout. Also good if you get motion sickness because this game has alot of options to turn off the extra effects like moving stages and extra animations. Ah I love it! It's the best! This game is well balanced! I am definitely not disappointed 🙂
Custom Songs and Dance-like Gameplay. I grew up in the time of Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. I have played nearly all forms of music games including of course Beat Saber. In my opinion Synth Riders is a far more enjoyable experience thanks in part to the inclusion of and ease of access to custom songs. The ability to drag and drop fan made song files and have them available with no additional programs or mods is a major win from the developers.
In addition, the gameplay itself makes it easier to add personalized spins/twists/exaggerations/moves/etc. during play since you only need to touch targets rather than line up a perfectly angled swing or strike. Talented song mappers have created a lot of maps that lend the ability to actually dance to the music while accurately hitting targets making it easier to enjoy for casual players and players looking to get in some cardio. Beat Saber almost became a chore to play once I reached expert+, while Master level in Synth Riders remains fun while still taking on the limits of human arm speed.
Incredible soundtrack! Been a Beat Saber fan for ages and gave this a shot. It’s a brilliant alternative with a different style of movement and excellent difficulty curve. More ‘all body’ and the soundtrack is immense. Well worth a go if you like music rhythm games. Will be playing this for a long time.
One of the most replayable games. 10/10. Very good musical game, with a careful visual style and with the possibility of adding custom songs. Very good also the development team that is involved with the requests of the community.
I think the game deserves 5 stars and is a must have for everyone who likes this type of game. I can't tell if I prefer this one or Beat Saber, which I adore thanks to its mods and custom songs, but they are both on the same level, that's for sure. Also, have some modifiers like 180, 360, Spiral (increíble mode) or hit, and the possibility of applying them to all songs (including custom), makes Synth Riders slightly above Beat Saber in replayability.
I only wish, that in addition to the modifier that increases the speed of the generation of visual artifacts, which also finds another one, that it really increases the entire song. Although the song sounds more faster. A modifier that would increase music and visuals speed by a 110%, 120% and 130% (Hardest) would be great for those of us who like to exercise harder.
Thanks to the devs for continuing to improve the game years after it was released.
Addicted to SynthRiders. I love SynthRiders. If I were to purchase only one game ever this would be it. I bought all the music packs for this because I love the selections so much. It is nice to be introduced to new music that inspires me to be energetic and move. I even started listening to the music from the game, at work and home, while not playing this too. I have Beat Sabers and have not touched it since getting SynthRiders. It is surpisingly vigorous exercise. I don’t notice the strenuous workout though, as I am having so much fun that I want to keep going when my set time is up and the battery on my Quest is depleted. The choreography in this game is genius. I enjoy playing this solo and also sometimes with my partner. There are also online meetups to play with others globally. Thank you to the creators for making such a fun game, great work! I look forward to getting future add-on packs, as the music and choreography is so brilliant!
If give 10 stars if I could! Absolutely hands down, BEST APP I could have ever purchased. Debated it got quite some time before buying it... and once I did, I couldn't even believe I hesitated. If u think Beat Saber is good... u definitely won't wanna miss out on this! I LOVE THIS APP!!! I PROMISE YOU WON'T REGRET BUYING IT!
Amazing. Custom Songs take the cake. Game itself is great. A lot of movement, enough variety, and some songs that really make you feel like dancing. Some pop, electro swing jazz or whatever, house, technoish, edm, and even rock music. Really cool.
I have to say that the community is great. The Custom Songs are really what takes this game to the next level. I hope the devs add more albums. I think having 70s and 80s dance and pop songs would take this to the top.
BIG SHOUTOUT to ONEILL12314. His custom song maps are wildly accurate. You're basically doing the actual choreography. I cannot state this enough. I hope you get him on the payroll if he isn't yet. And if he doesn't even want that, then what a hero he truly is. I don't know how to reach you directly, but I hope you continue uploading custom songs, sir. Bravo.
Joyful. This is the single best value game I own and the one I come back to the most. Fantastic for exercise, especially once you work up to higher difficulty levels, with the game and physical movements getting more fun and engaging as you go. Great for stress relief and fun. Lots of high quality custom tracks and songs available, support from the dev team and great multiplayer. What distinguishes it from other rhythm games, in my opinion, is the sense of rhythm and movement it has. It is more fluid and feels more like dancing than Audio Trip (which is also great btw).
This game has single handedly improved my quality of life, thank you developers for the fantastic work. So much fun!
Awesome game BUT.....!!! I absolutely love this game, its my favorite game on oculus, but! The add on content is slow to be produced.. everytime I'm on the Oculus store I see Beat Sabre have released a awesome song pack and what Synth Riders gets is MUSE and Caravan Palace what's that all about? It's in the title of the game SYNTH it needs more new dance synth releases so because of this I've got to give the game 2 stars, this is not pointed towards the game but because of the terrible and boring add on releases. Get your act together please.
Surprisingly Good. Pros: -a great/fun workout and isn't too intense -some pretty good music -multiplayer -course modifiers -multiple game modes -the ability to create tracks and add custom songs (with a PC) -devs are still dedicated to creating a good experience for users
Cons: -orb/rail placement often follows lead/vocal melody instead of rhythm section which can feel disconnected from the song itself -green orbs often pick the wrong hand, I usually have to put the hand I don't want to use behind my back or over my head to prevent it from being chosen -some levels have you dodging barriers so quickly (left/right motion) that the hard plastic gets slammed into my nose repeatedly and it makes the headset move so much that my eyes become unaligned with the lenses -Muse has a ton of amazing songs so it's a shame not one of them are included in the Muse music pack -a lot of the hard courses seem unbalanced, I can breeze through half of them with my eyes closed and the other half seem borderline impossible to get "perfect".
And one more complaint that I can't hold against the devs or the game itself: 95% of the custom songs you cant get from synthriderz website are hot garbage but that's to be expected. Pro tip for anyone interested in making their own custom tracks: it's a rhythm game, place the orbs on the beat of the song. Rhythm games are at peak-fun when they make you feel like a drummer or are otherwise contributing to the music, or when they trick you into pulling off sick dance moves because of the orb placement. Some of the electro-swing songs are the best for this which is wild because I will HATE the songs yet I'll really enjoy their levels because they stick with the beat/dance moves theory.
Long story short: even as someone who loves waiting for games to go on sale I can recommend buying this one even if it isn't currently on sale, it's worth the full price.
Outstanding Dance Vibes. I've been playing VR since 2018 and games come and go. SYNTH RIDERS in one game that I always enjoy. The music and motion is an experience, in 360 mode I can really get immersed and feel like I am part of the music.
This game never gets stale with new content released regularly, special "experience" mode for certain songs, and the ability to play every song on spin mode in every difficulty level. PLUS there is a vibrant custom community with creator tools (on PC).
Synth Riders is an all around enjoyable experience for any skill level.
