The multi-awarded narrative VR experience is now available on Oculus Quest. ARTE gives you the opportunity to discover and rediscover Notes On Blindness, an emotional journey into a world beyond sight.
In 1983, after decades of steady deterioration, John Hull became totally blind. To help him make sense of the upheaval in his life, he began documenting his experiences on audio cassettes. These original diary recordings create the basis of this interactive non-fictional narrative which is a cognitive and emotional experience of blindness. Storytelling, art direction and graphical universe form a unique and singular immersion, completed by movement tracking, spacialized sound and controller interactions.
Produced by Ex Nihilo, Arte France in co-production with Archer’s Mark. Executive Producer, Novelab Audiogaming. Supported by TFI New Media Fund and Ford Foundation – JustFilms, CNC and Région Midi-Pyrénées.
One of the best experiences. Touching real life story and an insight on blindness and what blind people really see around them. Just with their ears, they see more than sighted people.

Impressive. So simple yet so moving. "Nice" experience that though me more about the world we live in.
Amazing. This is amazing. I never knew what it would’ve been like being blind until I saw Notes on Blindness. And because of that I learned that being blind is not that bad. Being blind means It increases your other senses. (Mostly hearing) I now sometimes walk around the house FEELING how good I would be if I went blind one day. I recommend it for all people of all ages. Have fun!!!
Incredible. I didn't know how something could make me understand blindness and was skeptical of this title but WOW. A MUST EXPERIENCE in VR. Very personal and moving, yet so simple.
My mind is absolutely blown. I’m amazed, this is a very good depiction on what blindness is like. It made me realize without sight all other senses and emotions are heightened. I’ve never had a game almost make me cry before. For that I have to correct myself. This isn’t a game, it’s a masterpiece. 🙌
Wow. We take things for granted, the perception of the unknown, what to expect, the fear, panic, anxiety takes over every situation. You can hear but can't see what is surrounding you. Just can't imagine... That you never would know how your love one's might look like. We complain about any simple things in life. That you're not looking the other person is going through something worse than you. Life goes on a blink of an eye. We need to cherish everything the Lord gives us. Be happy for who you are and never think that you're the only that has prove and circumstances that you can deal with. Thank you for showing me to see life differently. I cried at the end 😭 very emotional 😢 this is the best I have seen in the VR true life events. God bless everyone 💙❤
Very good. I enjoyed learning about blindness in this way. The only improvement would be a pause button. I was interupted more than once and had to start over. It is not super long, but it is good to make sure you have time to finish. It is worth the experience.
Enlightening experience. I didn't have high hopes for this but gave it a go as it was free and I'm glad I did as I found it a very rewarding experience. The narrator communicates extremely well and to be honest, it would make a fascinating documentary even without VR but I do think the VR experience took it to another level. I guess I'd never really considered what it would be like to be blind and this made me think about things I had never really considered - always a good thing! I recommended it to a friend who wasn't wowed by it so perhaps not for everyone but 5 stars from me.
It was very sensual and emotional game. Yet, sensitivity of experience and perception of things overwhelmed me so much, I ended up crying at the very end.
Whatever this man went through is beautiful. At the same time it is very sad and tragical. Like an Odyssey where main character is trying to adapt into new reality and not get lost within his fears and thoughts.
If someone likes slices of life and true story documentaries or testimonials - this VR game will be an excellent choice. If you don’t like real and emotional things in games and entertainment - then don’t play in it.
Once I will overcome this sort of emotional overloading, definitely I will play again in this title. Definitely.

Wow. I have 20/20 vision so to see what it's like to be blind is crazy. Simply closing your eyes or putting on a blind fold doesn't give you a true experience. Only seeing thing and people when they make sound makes me wonder... What would it be like if I was blind?

I'm confused. I don't know if I'm missing something but this was super short. Not very interesting.
Interesting VR experience. This unique VR documentary is worthwhile. I was immersed in the narrative. My favorite chapter is the choir. I highly recommend it.
A highly innovative VR experience. An incredibly innovative VR experience that takes you on a moving journey. Absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended.
Notes on Blindness-A Review by R. Gant. This series of video clips take you on a narrated journey that challenges the significance that most people place on our ability to see. I was particularly amazed at how reflective I became as I delved deeper into this narrative. John's description of his transition from a "sighted" to a "non-sighted" person is riveting and, without a doubt, makes for one of the most moving virtual reality experiences I've encountered.
