Pure Audiovisual Feast. Thumper, even in its flatscreen version, is a towering achievement in rhythm videogames: a relatively simple stick+button concept elevated to unbelievable heights through its satisfying gameplay loop and a delightfully unhinged presentation. Honestly, few games can boast such a wild premise: a futuristic-looking beetle racing into the depths of a hellish abyss, jumping and flying through countless enemies that act as “notes” in this bizarre symphony of violence. As you progress through the game’s 9 [circles of hell] levels, more gameplay mechanics get added into the mix, turning an already intricate rhythm game into a real reflex challenge.
In VR, however, you become one with the beetle. The sheer sense of speed and rhythm is unlike anything you could ever experience, let alone in a videogame. As you race through the trippy environments and hit perfect note combos, it’s like the brain unlocks some meditative state of pure bliss. And once it fully clicks, reality is all about getting you — the beetle — to the end of the line. Unreal stuff.
Shiny beetle go zoom :]. I had this on Switch before, but I never beat it. Somehow, it’s magically a lot easier with a screen strapped to my face! It’s not really the traditional kind of rhythm game, but rather almost has more of a “call and response” kind of feel to it that really fits the music and atmosphere! Anybody with a decent amount of experience with rhythm games could definitely make it through the whole thing, it’s really forgiving with the checkpoints and being able to regenerate your armor if you have a good combo going. Overall, this was a great addition to my library, I’ll probably go back to get all S-ranks! :D
Great game. Great game, the reason it’s got a lower rating than it deserves is because many people don’t get past the first level before they quit. I’m really angry at some of these reviews. One review said this game has no action, and the beetle can barely do any movements. First of all, I can tell that they did not get past the first level if they think the beetle can barely move. Second of all, I can also tell that they didn’t get past the second level because this game is jam-packed full of action. There are horrifying bosses, a whole load of tricky button presses and fast reaction times. This review then went on to say, “the game would be better if there was a second track to jump to, like track A and track B. This tells me they didn’t get past the second level, because as the player progresses through the game, more and more tracks begin to appear, until there are at least 4. These people who wright their reviews should really think. In what game does it start you off with every control, every trap or reason to fail? The actual game has incredible gameplay, without the need to stand up and get your legs tired. It’s the perfect vr game to test your reflex time, while having a load of fun.
Underrated Gem (Referall Too). I’ve bought this game 4 times. Xbox, Switch, Steam, and now Oculus, and I gotta say that Oculus is definitely the definitive experience. You really feel in the moment, in the intensity of the situation, and it’s a rush I haven’t felt since the first time I played it on Xbox. This game is simple and yet extremely difficult at times, and feeling cornered, surrounded by these crazy lines and bosses, only to kick their butt??!!! In VR??!!! Hell yeah man!!
My ultimate favorite game. I've bought this game 4 times on 4 different platforms and I didn't regret a single penny on them, I have 300+ hours of playtime on steam, I could play it using steam VR but a very sensitive game like this would require 0 connection problems for your health sake lol, definitely felt like playing a new game when I bought the standalone version.

Classic Arcade Immersive Action. This was on the PSVR when it first came out. It’s what all games like this hope to be. Hyper realistic graphics with a wonderful sense of speed and intensity. Kind of a must have for any VR owner…

Stunning. The visuals are a masterpiece and worth the experience on just that alone.
A masterful pleasure! Ok. Visual representation is so soothing and the pace is just perfect! I’ll be honest I pop this on with my happy smoke and I feel like I am floating with bliss! No swinging arms and sweating, just relaxing and mind work out for the human brain!

Suspenseful Intensities... This game is balls to the wall...in your face. Best first person tunnel vision on what could be seen as an absolute ride through Hell. Rhythm games may prepare ones senses, however a full VR rig with headphones playing this game--BAM! Great job devs, I will say no more.
Flowing through the universe. I first bought this game and then refunded it. But the next day I had to buy it again. This game has a spiritual connection. I needed to feel my-self flowing through the universe and battling these entities. It’s weird the triangle is just a shape, but yet it has being to it. A god like being. That you connect with as you send your shock ball towards it exploding it with your power.
I like how this is a game that you can play in bed. You don’t swing your arms just press the buttons. A relaxing yet enjoyable intense game.
Old title. Well….being that this was a memorization game that came out years ago, it held its own. Graphically it looks good. Sound is out of this world pure dread. The gameplay…well….it’s again just combination of pressing a and your thumb sticks.
Is it worth 19.99? No. Is it worth 12 on sale? No. Being it’s an old game that is no longer supported If it ever hits 5 or free it’s worth it.
