The VR Chemistry Lab was originally designed to be a research tool where studies of VR learning environments could be explored. Currently, it is still being used in research but has potential for student use as a hands-on science lab experience at home or at school. It also contains experiences where players can explore molecule creation in an immersive environment as well as play a game of catalyzing a chemical reaction.
A great tool for Education and VR. This App is from the ‘App Lab’ so I expected a few glitches – and there are a few which I will get to in a moment. But I was also very pleasantly surprised with how ‘finished’ the graphics and material content were. No, you can’t step outside of the lab (it looks interesting – thru the windows - so I tried but it’s a ‘no-go’) but in the lab -- this App shines. OK, it took me awhile to learn how to turn off the shower but overall, it’s great and has a lot of potential. About those few glitches: The app only uses touch controllers – using ‘hands’ would help a lot. I had trouble using the ‘measuring spoons’. I never did manage to get a full spoon of any chemical and I spilled more on the lab table than I was able to put in the beaker. Working with ‘anything’ on the lab table was awkward - Although, I do have to admit that the touch controllers were very useful in moving around the lab. Still, being unable to fill the spoons was frustrating – even though I was able to complete the ‘experiment’ with just a few grains of the chemicals instead of the ‘suggested’ amount. I also found the ‘Molecular Experience’ to be fantastic. What a great way to view a chemical reaction – from the inside out. My rating on this app is 3.7 but I sure do hope the Developer keeps it going. This is a great example of ‘VR in Education’. I learned a lot – about Chemistry and VR.
