Debate about reproductive rights is often heated. But behind every family planning decision, there is a human story. The Choice is an award winning virtual reality experience that lets us see from a different perspective the emotional and complex nature behind one woman’s choice.
Meet Kristen, a young Indigenous woman from Austin, TX, who dreams of raising a family but instead finds herself facing a dehumanizing system working against her survival.
The Choice blends techniques from traditional documentary storytelling, volumetric video capture, and animation to redefine not only how we tell these women’s stories but also the agency in which the audience experiences them and connects with the subject on a deep, emotional level.
Powerful. The stereoscopic medium evokes empathy in away video never could. Combined with this young woman's personal account of her story, it puts you in the shoes of the people who are the victims of extreme state laws, such as the right to lie to patients and the tragic effects they have on their lives. People need to see this.
Elegant & Innovative. What a powerful story, elegantly executed! Really strikes a balance between the creative and technical components.The Quill illustrations are quite effective and the treatment of the volumetric capture is the best I can recall seeing in a documentary context. The piece is important now, more than ever and I believe it can inspire positive change.
