Rockey lives in a tent in a park. We meet her on the day police and sanitation workers come to clear the park of the homeless people seeking shelter there. Rockey flees, unable to salvage her personal belongings. Through interactivity, explore Rockey’s personal objects, objects that hold Rockey’s memories and illustrate her past. Pick up her journal to reveal an animated poem, the story of the first homeless man Rockey saw when she was ten. Find a small wooden box filled with Rockey’s photos. Wind up a music box to hear Rockey’s dream of having a home again. Pick up a small cut out of a motorcycle and open up a psychedelic animation telling the story of the day Rockey got married on the back of a motorcycle on her way to Sturges. Finally, a novel from Rockey’s childhood opens to reveal an animation of Rockey’s last desire - to be a cowboy.
Wow. It'll get ya. I just got my VR headset. This was one of the first things I did. I love documentaries. Even better in VR right? Well this one about tore me to pieces. I'll definitely be changing my heart towards the homeless.
Very interactive. This was so well done. While its a sad topic, you really feel like you are in a homeless persons shoes! You will feel a connection to Rockey by the end. Sad but eye opening.
VR for good. Meta has done a fantastic job, giving a platform for experiences like this to shine and to be seen by many. Hopefully they include these kind of “games” in the next Meta Quest Gaming Showcase.
Five stars for the topic, the presentation, the immersion and heart.
Hope to see more VR like this. I think it is a very good thing making this VR experience. I expected it to be a little longer. Alot of people in today's society ONLY go off of assumptions of how they think things are or about others lives and not off of FACTS. They won't take the time to find out the facts for themselves. It is true ANYONE could be in the situation not all homeless are drug addicts. People who go on about the police clearly have never had anything major or serious happen to them before. I hope you make more VR experiences like this maybe show how truly scary it is for these people especially at night. This is what the VR world needs more of GOOD JOB! I hope she is doing alot better today. Bad things happen to good people and it's sad. Then, they have to be judged by people who know NOTHING about what the person they are judging have even been through and assuming things and not knowing the full story or learning facts.

Library of Realities.com review:. See the world through the stories of Rockey, a woman living in the United States who became trapped in homelessness. This fifteen minute experience takes place mostly in Rockey's home - a tent full of her belongings - and is told in her own voice as you're invited to peruse some of her personal possessions.
360 degree video is combined expertly with photography and interactive VR objects to lead the viewer through Rockey's recollections. A cutscene appears when we pick up her poetry book, and another when we take a look at a card by her bed.
Most of We Live Here can be viewed from a seated position, but it is necessary to reach beyond a chair to grab some objects needed for the story to continue. We had problems picking up one item that seemed to be located below floor level no matter how we tried to reset our position, almost to a program-breaking degree. This could have been avoided, and mobility challenged viewers could have been better accommodated, if all items could be grasped by gesture movements instead. Also, snap-turning is missing which make it difficult to view scenes behind us.
The story is told sympathetically in a matter-of-fact way without becoming over sentimental or political. Bookended by a dramatized event involving being moved on by police and sanitation workers, it's clear that this is staged and populated with actors, but Rockey is very genuine and her involvement holds the piece together. Includes brief scenes that make this suitable only for an adult audience.
✅ Strong story told in a matter-of-fact way ✅ Good blend of 360 degree video, images and VR animation ❌ Can be difficult to pick up objects ❌ No rotation control (snap-turning)
Become a Professional Backpacker. Hopefully homeless people eventually hear this message through someone.
You don't have to consider yourself homeless. If you consider yourself a professional backpacker, the whole world opens up to you.
Go train hoping on cargo trains to see new beautiful sights and places. For food, get either leftovers from restaurants or reclaimed food. (Yes that's a thing, and no its not just for the homeless. People who live on the extreme on not wasting food do it, too.) You could also hunt and gather.
For camp, stay on federal lands, abandoned places, or even take a nap in the park if you can't find a place and need to stay up all night.
I know I chose this lifestyle, but most people have it forced upon them. I started as a vandweller, now live the RV life, and will soon live the buslife. After that, I'll build a tiny home, and then become a professional backpacker.
I make 6 figures, and I know you don't need much to live on. Those who live on next to nothing get to see the world, and those who weigh themselves down with stuff live in a cage of gold. The secret to happiness is sharing experiences with others, not collecting the next cool tech gadget.
The Good and the Bad. As an experience, it's amazing. As some detractors have noted, it is a bit of propaganda and is staged, but as a showcase for what VR can do, that's worth overlooking.

The Best Documentary on the Quest. The VR For Good series is one that let's audiences easily envelop themselves into someone else's story, and nowhere is that better written, filmed, developed, and polished then in We Live Here. I can't wait to see what this series can do in the future to help us look at a new perspective.
Unbelievable! Some of these people.. Some of these people writing their reviews OF COURSE, are trying to make it ALL about the cops and saying the cops don't actually do this to homeless people and the whole thing is fake, cuze the stuff is clean and what not.. I was homeless in Philly for TWO YEARS, lived in a tent, my things weren't dirty, just, cuze ur stuff isn't dirty, don't mean ur not homeless and just, cuze you are homeless, don't mean you have to live dirty!! Also, i hate to brake it to you, but the cops DO EXACTLY this and so do the garbage man! I've had this done to me several times, almost every day at one point.. Being only 19 years old, with nothing.. The cops would target me on purpose and bother me, more than anyone else, cuze i was pretty and young and they thought I was the easiest to harras, but they also did what you see right here in this video to everyone else! They throw away EVERYTHING you have! Even ur blankets, pillows, clothes, the only thing keeping you warm and sheltered and they do it on purpose , cuze they think it is funny! They will wait till a big snow storm or rain storm is coming or wait till it is nearly dark, so we can't get shelter or find help.. The cops DO, DO THIS, so to you people saying this is attacking the cops, no they are not, cuze the cops do this on a daily basis, they like it, it is a power trip and they laugh at you and your misfortunes, they do it to everyone.. I'm not homeless anymore, but I have never had ONE SINGLE good experience with a cop that helped me, EVER! The cops would have Narcan in their cars and vans, cuze so many homeless people would OD right in front of them.. Than they wouldn't use it, they would let the person die, cuze they think they are just a homeless drug addict, who cares about them, they don't matter, but that is someone's something, that person matters to someone and is someone's Mother/Father, Sister/Brother, Aunt/Uncle, Neice/Nephew, Daughter/Son, you get it, the list goes on! Sick of ppl making EVERYTHING about the cops, this is about homelessness, NOT the cops! Their is one good cop in every 5,000, and you will be VERY lucky to find THAT one! 100%
