You can watch K-pop artists perform in 180° 3D from a distance of about 1 meter in front of you. Although it is still rare, 8K images are very beautiful, have an incomparable sense of reality, and are truly amazing. The only bottleneck is the lack of content from top artists. I understand it will be difficult, but if IU and BTS are added to the lineup, a lot of paid content will be purchased, and I think it may even lead to the sudden spread of VR headsets.

Absolute MUST for K-Pop fans! I’m fairly new to the world of VR and apart from trying out some games etc, one of the first things I tried to do was find some VR concert experiences. I found quite a few on YouTube, but they’re typically not at a resolution that does the content or artists any justice. Then I stumbled upon the Dreamcatcher teaser for Venta X.
I’m a fan of all music but I’ve also been quite a big K-Pop fan for a long time now, so this was a great surprise! Firstly, the video quality is absolutely incredible. There are a number of native 8K videos which look amazing, and even more videos upscaled from 4K to 8K which look great too.
The experience itself is like nothing else. It’s like you’re standing on the front of the stage and your favourite groups are performing just for you. The constant eye contact helps with the immersion even more, and some of the slightly more experienced groups really have fun with the camera (you), making some silly gesture or a cheeky grin, which can make the experience seem really personal.
There are also a couple of exclusive full concerts you can experience, however you need to buy these. So far I’ve purchased the Dreamcatcher concert and I plan to also get the Oh My Girl concert in the future. For what you get, I feel these are reasonably priced.
I’d love to see so much more content added, from many other K-Pop groups that aren’t already on the app, the paid concerts are filmed specifically for the app, but a lot of the content is captured from the weekly ‘The Show’ so I guess this will be limited by the groups (or their record labels) who agree to it. Hopefully, the popularity is there for them to continue long into the future.
There are only a couple of negatives I have to point out for this review to be fair, the first is that you do need a pretty decent internet connection to watch the videos, as they are streamed in 8K this must require quite a bit of bandwidth. I’ve got an internet connection that is well over the recommended speed and I constantly get pauses for the content to buffer. It would be great if you could download the videos so you could watch them without these issues, maybe if these downloads could be timed? Or only allow a certain amount per day? (The concerts you can purchase can be downloaded a certain number of times, they’re longer videos so can take a while to download, but it’s definitely worth doing). Either way, this isn’t so much of an issue that I’m lowering my review score.
The only other negative I have is that I have to wait a week between content uploads! I’m kidding. In the month that I’ve been using the app, it seems that they add at least three new videos a week (every Thursday), which is great! I just need more!
This will probably be an app that will stay on my Quest 3 headset forever.
