Ignore The Negative Reviews! I’ve never played or had any interest in a Zombie Army game until this release and like many of us, I have been frustrated by the delays & disappointed by the early-access builds of this game. Even in the last couple of days, influencers and reviewers have received their copies and I thought ‘oh here we go, this really is going to be bad’ based on the lack of gameplay and context they were allowed to provide. I’m actually surprised and credit where credit is due, the game is very fun and the gameplay loop & progression system -which admittedly could do with some fleshing out and expanding upon- is VERY moreish. The weapon upgrade and skins system are also surprisingly fleshed out considering what we’ve come to expect from our VR games.Edit- IGNORE anybody reviewing this game based on past footage or the fact this game isn’t 4 player co-op, the game’s extra development time has clearly paid off and it was never advertised as being a 4 player one!

Ignore the Positive Reviews! Mine is the only opinion that matters, ya know. I don't even get why they let others post reviews... Anywho... I'm experienced with Zombie shooters enough to tell right from wrong, and in the WEEKS I've owned this game, I've been able to get on and play multiplayer exactly twice, on Day 1. Since then, it's been nonstop nothingness--like literally worthless--because multiplayer hasn't done anything since my first day. Honest to god, my George Foreman Grille saw more action, this past week...Unfortunately, I played more than two hours, 'cause I've spent more than that trying to get it working(!), or I wouldn't officially own this, anymore...There are a million Zombie Shooters out there. Heck, so much so that "Zombie Shooters" has become its own genre of video games -- if not THE largest sub-genre of any medium, ever. Honestly, there may be more Zombie Shooters than Roguelikes in the world, in mid-2025. VR has more than its share, too--pro'lly because they work so well with VR--to be sure, but not of the multiplayer variety, which is what we need, here, now -- and what was advertised for months. That's where this game has the *potential* to be good or even great. It's even fun in Switch -- or was, until VR shooters killed flatscreen shooters, for me... However, I can't abide an established dev muffing a game launch for a month. So... why would I care about this yet another player Zombie Shooter, while essentially bereft of multiplayer? After the Fall is a great game that, while showing its age, is still capable of smooth, four-player multiplayer--much more fun, from what I got to see, that day--despite having come out in late 2021 -- and it can go a couple hours on just the headset batteries. At the very least, ZA:VR could offer credits, a $5 meta credit, a cosmetic (of desk work Deadhunter, maybe, to capture the feeling of the game's loss) or at least *something* for jumping out with a big price on this "not ready for prime time players'" game. Thanks for reading, and hope this helps...
Bait and switch. When this game was first announced it was advertised as a 4 player coop campaign. After several lengthy delays, they changed it to a 2 player campaign with a 4 player horde mode. Today is launch day, and there is no horde mode. The lobbies for 2 player coop appear to be down as well. This is a perfect case for a refund, but I thought I should at least leave a review first.
Change of view. So first I will say it is lacking 2 hands on a handgun. However; now I gotta say this game is the way Sniper Elite should have been made. So off you go redo fix it with this new group. This is finally actually good zombie game, that after watch videos, on this game, at previous game shows, was not impressive at all. Actually created their own bad reviews. So I’m changing my review, as now I can see a lot of effort went into this, and you have my full respect. Thank you for delivering a great Zombie Army to VR.
Fun but network errors, no saves in coop. Love this game. A zombie slaying adventure that’s absolute chaos and joy… until co-op mode where checkpoints are a myth.Gameplay loop:\t1.\tStart chapter.\t2.\tGet network error.\t3.\tRestart chapter.\t4.\tRepeat until madness sets in.If my friend dies, I’ve got 30 seconds to either (A) break the sound barrier to the next checkpoint so we don’t have to start over or (B) kill the entire zombie army alone in record time. If a player gets disconnected, there is no way to rejoin the other still holding back the hordes. If we both get a nework error it’s back to the beginning of the chapter aka ground hog day style because checkpoints in coop do not exist in this game for some mysterious reason. Spending an hour only to have a nework error occur at the very end of a chapter and having to start over is a constant fear in coop mode. When it works, though? Pure zombie-slaying fun. I hope the devs do address these connection and save issues in order to create a better coop experience.
Has Incredible Potential. Revised 06.22.2025The Good:- 3 Skill Levels- Teleport Option- Story Line- Intro / Tutorial is pretty comprehensive- Graphics are in the top 2% for a Quest 3 Game - Has Co-OpSuggested Improvements & Bugs to Squash:- I wish teleport was a bit less flashy. That brief black flash is a little nauseating. I have played games with no black flash and it makes a world of difference.- Glitches! I can’t count how many times we’ve had to wonder around a level or restart it in the hopes that we could get a checkpoint to actually work and allow us to proceed through the game. So far, there’s at least one where we tried several times and could never get the starred lever to pull. The game will also have at least one “Network” error that will cause us to have to start over. We don’t have this issue with other games so it’s not a local issue. The game is definitely fun, but having to constantly restart and replay certain sections detracts from the experience.- It would be helpful if there was a more obvious way to tell when/if the tutorial is over and the actual game is beginning. I kept going, waiting for a moment to be able to select Co-Op. Eventually I saw the option in The Hub, but that brings me to my next suggestion.- The Quit and Return to the Hub button as as the Start Co-Op options should be single click. It took us awhile to figure out that we needed to hold down the trigger on these buttons to get them to work. - It would be great if players could teleport with both hands. I prefer to teleport with my right hand and don’t need the snap feature because I have a swiveling chair. - Personally, I’d prefer if there was an option to turn off friendly fire and self-harm (with explosives).- I’d like to see more hand mirroring options. By this, I mean that I’d like to be able to do nearly everything with my left hand that the game allows me to do with my right hand. That said, you can do a lot.Overall the game is pretty incredible. After an update or so, I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes the number one game for Quest 3.[I’ll add the 5th star after enough of these bugs are squashed]
