Pulled at the heart strings. As a long time Myst fan, I have a soft spot for puzzle games. And this one successfully created an almost Myst-like ambiance that really transported me. The puzzles were interesting and absorbing, and I got really emotionally invested in the story. It did an amazing job of making me believe I was inhabiting another realm. I actually had weird dreams the few days I was playing it. The inconsistent gravity puzzles were pretty mind-bending. I saw one reviewer compare it to Monument Valley, and I think that's spot on. Also, it bears mentioning that this isn't a non-VR game that was ported to VR. It was designed from the ground up to be VR, and it shows. One annoying glitch is that due to the popping back and forth through doorways to different areas, it sometimes gets confused about where you are, and tells you to return to the game area, and doesn't let you. At that point, you need to open the menu, return to Shadow Point, and re-enter the level. But even with that problem, I would definitely recommend.
Evocative and poingnant. This is rather like playing Monument Valley (love that one!), except you are the one running around in an Escheresque landscape with inconsistent laws of physics. The sound effects were similar as well. The puzzles are imaginative and the shadow logic was neat. There are a few glitches here and there that other reviewers have mentioned (the game suddenly quitting, being unable to reach an object in a well, suddenly being "out of bounds" but unable to get back into the game) but the story and the ambiance are top notch. I especially like the mechanic of not having to run around trying to remember where you left something-- it's always there in your backpack when you need it. In terms of difficulty, this is a bit easier than Myst (my bar for excellence) but some of the "adjust gravity so your lamp hangs upside down" puzzles were very challenging indeed. Haven't quite finished, but I've only resorted to asking for help a few times (like reaching that blasted apple in the well or opening the camera, haha) and there are walkthroughs online if you get stuck. Oh, and you can pet the bird. Be sure to pet the bird. Very important. :)
One of the best. After trying VR puzzle games for the first time with 7th Guest i was hungry for more and decided to test many. Reached for Shadow Point and can't complain. It's one of the best, standing side by side with 7th Guest and Myst as the best games in the genre i was able to find. Just MUST PLAY :)
Would Defintely Recommend. I love this game! It allows me to have my love of puzzle games with a fantasy twist. There is some logic there, but you have to intertwine that with the fantasy and it’s fantastic! It really helps take me to a different world on a tough day! Also Patrick Stewart everyone’s favorite star fleet captain is the narrator!
Amazing puzzles and compelling story. The puzzles in this were really inventive, reminding me of Portal, Braid, and other great puzzle games. Meanwhile, the world and the story got me hooked once it came into focus, and I had to keep going to see how the story would end. The game has mechanics that wouldn't work nearly as well if it wasn't in VR, really taking advantage of the player being able to move their hands freely in a 3D space. Highly recommended!
Amazing gameplay for hours on! I played ~dozen oculus games (mostly puzzle/adventure) and this is my most favorite game of all!! The puzzles start simple but get quite challenging (in a good way) as you progress. The story is nicely done and gives you goosebumps. The gameplay lasts hours and hours, giving you great value for the money :)
Pretty cool game/experience. Game was a pretty cool experience. Puzzles can get tricky and makes you have to think/work to figure them out but not ridiculously hard. Slow paced game but really enjoyed it.
Extremely charming puzzler. Got in bundle with call of the sea and this one definitely the winner here. 'Call' suffers from narrative boredom but shadow point is imaginative and charming. The puzzles are real brain stretchers and just what I like in puzzle based games. Sir Patrick Stewart narration is spot on. If I had any suggestions it would be immersion based in regards to stowing and retrieving backpack items.
Frustrating (seated mode). The game looks good and the puzzles are fun until you play in seated mode. I was blocked three days in front of a well and I spent hours so I decided to have a look at a yt video ( I HATE doing this): I already tried the solution but the weel was so deep and my controller touched the floor, so I switched in standup mode and it worked. Now, another well, same story.
Would be more if it worked. Me and my husband recently updated to the Oculus 3 headsets. I loved listening to this game while he played and since it can’t be shared, boo on that since I think it’s ridiculous to have to buy separate games for the same house, he gifted me a copy. I truly enjoy the concept and game play, but I have no sound. I can switch accounts and play his, on my Oculus, and there is sound, but I hear nothing when I switch back to my account to play. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, factory reset, and every combination of those things I can think of. I even tried playing it with the subtitles, but it’s just not the same. I don’t want to return the game, but I don’t want to play it without the sound. Fix this please! I’d give it a 5 star review if the sound worked.
Love love love this game! Visually compelling, wonderful game play and a poignant storyline! I was becoming despondent as I approached the final segment only to discover there were more puzzles to solve than I had anticipated! And when I completed those and returned to the “dashboard”, I realised there were some segments I hadn’t completed - so I returned to their universes and won my missing moons (this will make sense if you play the game). Then I returned to the dashboard and wondered what happened if I flipped the switches now I had completed every task - and there was even MORE (the “workroom”) to discover and solve!
I can’t wait to see what else the talented crew behind this game will create for VR!
Great concept but makes me feel ill. The puzzles and the shadow mechanic seem very interesting but something about this game makes me feel very ill. I don't usually have problems with vr sickness unless its a fast paced racing game. Games such as red matter which has smooth locomotion are fine but even with the teleport option I feel sick. I think there may be something off with the framerate? Sometimes the teleport locomotion doesn't work (after completing a level and entering the constellation area)
