Pulled at the heart strings. As a long time Myst fan, I have a soft spot for puzzle games. And this one successfully created an almost Myst-like ambiance that really transported me. The puzzles were interesting and absorbing, and I got really emotionally invested in the story. It did an amazing job of making me believe I was inhabiting another realm. I actually had weird dreams the few days I was playing it. The inconsistent gravity puzzles were pretty mind-bending. I saw one reviewer compare it to Monument Valley, and I think that's spot on. Also, it bears mentioning that this isn't a non-VR game that was ported to VR. It was designed from the ground up to be VR, and it shows. One annoying glitch is that due to the popping back and forth through doorways to different areas, it sometimes gets confused about where you are, and tells you to return to the game area, and doesn't let you. At that point, you need to open the menu, return to Shadow Point, and re-enter the level. But even with that problem, I would definitely recommend.
Evocative and poingnant. This is rather like playing Monument Valley (love that one!), except you are the one running around in an Escheresque landscape with inconsistent laws of physics. The sound effects were similar as well. The puzzles are imaginative and the shadow logic was neat. There are a few glitches here and there that other reviewers have mentioned (the game suddenly quitting, being unable to reach an object in a well, suddenly being "out of bounds" but unable to get back into the game) but the story and the ambiance are top notch. I especially like the mechanic of not having to run around trying to remember where you left something-- it's always there in your backpack when you need it. In terms of difficulty, this is a bit easier than Myst (my bar for excellence) but some of the "adjust gravity so your lamp hangs upside down" puzzles were very challenging indeed. Haven't quite finished, but I've only resorted to asking for help a few times (like reaching that blasted apple in the well or opening the camera, haha) and there are walkthroughs online if you get stuck. Oh, and you can pet the bird. Be sure to pet the bird. Very important. :)
One of the best. After trying VR puzzle games for the first time with 7th Guest i was hungry for more and decided to test many. Reached for Shadow Point and can't complain. It's one of the best, standing side by side with 7th Guest and Myst as the best games in the genre i was able to find. Just MUST PLAY :)
Would Defintely Recommend. I love this game! It allows me to have my love of puzzle games with a fantasy twist. There is some logic there, but you have to intertwine that with the fantasy and it’s fantastic! It really helps take me to a different world on a tough day! Also Patrick Stewart everyone’s favorite star fleet captain is the narrator!
