AREA MAN LIVES. Or does he? If you could join a radio drama already in progress, talk to the characters and interact with the environments the story painted in your mind, you might find yourself in the world of the area man.
A quirky radio drama unfolds around you in VR while you do your best to keep the radio station humming along as its new DJ. You record commercials, interview callers and try your best to piece together how your actions inside the station impact your listening audience in scenarios so wild they can only live in your imagination.
If it all feels like too much, don’t worry, you’ll have your lonely producer, the resident skeptic, to guide you on your way, not to mention the vaguely British female voice inside your head.
When an unusual area man calls into the station asking for your help, you have to act fast. Will you trust the area man, or do your best to thwart his plans? Is there anything you can do to save the area man from himself?
So Much More Than I Was Expecting. I just wanted to relax and be a small town DJ in VR for a while, maybe do some quirky VR things. But BOOM! Story hits, a mystery ensues, strange phenomenon occur, and you're sitting in the middle of it all at the radio station with an inter-dimensional connection to a rocket tow-truck!
I'm having a blast so far, but it's chill enough so I can still relax in my chair with a beer and keep the story rolling. It says I'm 9% done at 37 minutes in, which would be a lot of content for the price.
Oh ya, and the voice acting is tippity-top-notch. Joel McHale, Ronan Farrow, and Max Greenfield as the big three. AAA games don't have voice acting this good, so there's no reason an indy game should, but there it is.

We Are Live On Late Night Radio. Area Man Lives is a radio station DJ sim, with a quirky drama story that unfolds as you keep the station going throughout the night. The game immerses us into a comic book art style world, a run down radio station where we are the new DJ.
The environment is very interactive and has lots of little details, to keep you busy as a DJ. You will be playing records, broadcasting the news and commercials, and even talking phone calls. The unique part is, all the live part have to be read aloud to progress through the story. Now you can stick to the script and play along, or just wing it and have fun being a DJ.
You are not alone through this adventure. You will have the office manager talking to you through a speaker, helping you out and getting on your nerves at the same time.
The game is very interactive and you will find lots to do as a DJ. From spinning records, taking phone calls, playing darts and so much more. If you enjoy interactive sims, this is a treat. You will feel like a real DJ working the equipment and talking live on the air.
Their are many things to discover in our small office as well, even a critter in a cage we get to feed. If you fallow the story or not, you will find lots of things to do and have fun while doing them.
I really enjoyed the comic book world and radio station we get to play in. With the live reading and things to do, I was very entertained in away only VR could pull off.
If you are into sim environments and job roles, this is a must experience game. If you are looking for a more adult story to follow and interact with, this is also a good game. Either way you play it, for the story or just to be your own DJ. This game is worth checking out.

A cool concept with buggy gameplay. I love the concept of this game, the acting and world building alone makes it bearable. However, at least on my end, the gameplay itself is buggy and makes for some frustrating moments. A notable example would be when switching out records, you sometimes teleport behind the desk and towards the phone. Maybe a prompt or a click of a button to move/interact with objects would really improve faster moments in gameplay. Also an options menu would be really nice to have? I may just be stupid and can’t find it, but it would be very handy to adjust the settings to your out play style.
Moral of the story is - I’d just wait on this one for a bit, maybe till it’s on sale or it gets a couple more updates, before checking it out. But that’s my opinion, I could just be stupid and not get the concept so try it for yourself.
Wow, what a wild ride. The "story mechanics" in this game are amazing. Love the theme, it really makes you feel like a DJ in a tiny radio station in the pacific northwest. The amount of things you can interact with is surprising, and you quickly get caught up in the story.
