Red Matter is a story-driven VR puzzle adventure game set during a dystopian Sci-Fi Cold War. Take on the role of Agent Epsilon, an astronaut of the Atlantic Union dispatched to an abandoned Volgravian base on Rhea, one of Saturn’s moons. Your mission: to investigate a shady top secret research project.
Solve puzzles in a beautiful, high-detail brutalist environment which only becomes more and more surreal as the story progresses. Use an array of hi-tech tools to decipher hidden messages and mechanisms and uncover ever deeper and darker secrets of the facility. But beware of what you may find... Once you discover the truth, will you be able to stomach it?
Amazing. Very nice Game. Sadly a littlebit short, but great story and some tricky puzzles. I played with AirLink, but the Quest2-Version looks great. (Thanks to Crossbuy)
One of the best VR adventure games. If you have not played Red Matter, do not miss out on this title - it's one of the very best VR adventure games, and may easily last for 10 hours or so if you don't get any help solving puzzles. The quality of Red Matter with dynamic shadows, high polygon count and ultramersion textures is much higher than the average VR game released today. Maybe due to Oculus funding, devs were able to do something extraordinary with the awesome immersion quality of Red Matter. I'm glad I waited finishing the game until I had enough gpu power to get 90 fps while using very high res. My rating of Red Matter would be 9.5/10 - but only using Rift CV1. Due to the use of temporal antialiasing (TAA) the game looks very blurry with lcd hmds, but the game looks totally sharp using Rift CV1. I'm using an oc'ed RTX 3090 and i9 10900K cpu (10cores/20threads, 5.3GHz) and with the Rift CV1 I get 90 fps using ss 2.5, but do get a few dips below 90 fps occasionally. Ss 2.5 is an insanely high res of 27 mill pixels per image, or close to 8K TV res, but Red Matter looks insanely good with the CV1, everything is razor sharp. So you'll need a fast gpu, very high res and the right hmd to fully enjoy the game in 90 fps - and the game was made for oled hmds.
Pretty good, but short. After owning the game for nearly 4 years I finally decided to finish the game before Red Matter 2 releases. I can say the game look amazing, very atmospheric, and an interesting story. But, like many early VR games, the game is short (3 hours from start to finish), and the story is left in an unfinished state. Overall, I liked my time in Red Matter 1, but I do hope Red Matter 2 delivers more.content and a deeper story.
Oh, and Red Matter 1 is NOT Crossbuy, but Red Matter 2 WILL be Crossbuy. At least the 2nd game is Crossbuy.
Superb. A superb game with stellar estetics and compelling sci-fi atmosphere and fun puzzles. Great use of environmental storytelling! The only downsides re length (~4h) and occasionaly some whacky objects collision issues.
Watch out! this game is not cross-buy! The game itself is okay but every game i bought sofar on my quest 2 i can also play on my pc. I asumed this was the case with red matter aswell. I will update stars when cross buy.
edit #1: The game itself is fun and has nice mechanics but 3 hours experience for 25 euro thats criminal. And i am a slow player.
Discriminatory Game. Cant get a refund because I played for more than 2 hours. I have a medical disability the makes it impossible to handle the charged batteries slowly, Had this had been in the begining of the game I would be able to get a refund, but it took me more than two hours to get to this part of the game and I cant complete because I cant keep the batteis steady enough. This game disriminates against anyone with a diability. I demand a refund. No where does it mention if you have a disablity that you cannot play.
Loved this game! This game was challenging in a few places but not too hard to figure out. Great graphics, storyline, and length! There’s a couple of freaky things that can make your heart race but that just made it interesting. I love how many options there are, I prefer to teleport but there’s also smooth gliding walking options too. There are some achievements to earn along the way and I loved the immense atmosphere in every scene you play. Get this game, it’s worth it!
Awesome visuals, lacking story. The game is pretty good visualy, but the puzzles are dull, story isnt all that engaging and gameplay is lacking. i still recomend though. looks really good
very fun and challenging. this is one of the best games ive ever played when it comes to puzzles and mysteries I say that because it is so fun to figure everything out and its really well put together. and its also a bit creepy but in a good way.
You need a Brain not guns. First game I have completed in VR Loved it. Nice slow pace with amazing settings. Slighty creepy in places, but no jump scares. Hope that Vertical Robot make another game soon.
Perfect Eerie Puzzle Mystery. The setting is amazing. You really feel alone in a space station solving a mystery that pulls you down a rabbit hole of intrigue while solving puzzles. Although creepy at times, there are no jump scares (just fyi). Really great game that doesn't get enough attention. Highly recommend!

Don't bother for a year 2020/21 player. I just came into the world of VR and my first experience was Half Life Alyx. The graphics here are at least 2 generations old as in the 2017-2018 timeframe and are very hard on the eyes. Looking through a Quest 2 headset or even on my game monitor this looks like PlayStation 1 graphics. The controls do not feel intuitive and have been long surpassed by better games.
If you want to see what a 2019-2020 Science Fiction VR game in space is all about I highly recommend Lone Echo instead.
So: Do I hate this game? No, in fact I would re-consider this game if it was remastered. It just is a game that is long past its prime and made for much earlier revisions of VR gear.
Mysterious. The graphics are pretty good. The story is mysterious. The game puzzles are easy to medium difficulty. There are plenty of clues. Just take a break and go back if one stumps you. There is no action just exploration and puzzles. I hope there is an alternative ending because the ending felt like it left me hanging.
Challenging, fun story. The game was fun. Not the looking game but the puzzles were challenging and fun to do. My only complaint is the game is short. I knocked it out in like 3-4 hours. $25 for 3 hours of playing isn't a good deal, try to catch this one on sale.

Not bad, but not great for the cost. After playing a few other VR titles like Half Life Alyx and Lone Echo (released a few years ago now), I was a little let down a bit by this title. I'm all for Indie games, but not at premium prices. At the time of purchase, Lone Echo was just £10 more than this game, but is considerably more game for your green.
Red Matter is OK, there's just no story to the red matter, or very little story at all. The controls and movement are a little clunky and take a bit of getting used to. Transportation would have been better than "floating" over to your next position. But I guess the longer transition was designed to add some length to the game because it isn't very long at all.
I don't think I got more than 3 hours out of it, which for £18.99 isn't on par with what I'd expect at that price. There are no other characters in the game, the only interaction is a voice in your ear, and some spooky dude who doesn't speak. I was a fan of the old Red Faction games, this is nothing like it so don't be fooled.
There is some attention to detail, but the depth just isn't there. In Lone Echo, the planet looked like a planet, whereas here it looked more a 2D projection in a 3D space. Textures were basic throughout and the physics was a little un-natural.
Still, it was a playable game, the puzzles weren't that difficult but lacked a little cueing here and there. I did have to check a walk through at one point, but overall, I just wish the game had more interaction and a little more of a story with a background and a much better ending as I still wasn't sure the "simulation" was, or why I had been subjected to it.
Don't pay more than £10/$10 for this game. It just isn't worth it.
Probably one of my rift favorites. Great storyline. Great graphics. Fun and the puzzles weren't overly challenging. I got about 6 or 7 hours of gameplay out of it but I was playing it a little slower because I was really enjoying feeling like I was really there. I remember looking out over the ridge and seeing dust fly by...there is some serious attention to detail in this game. Out of all the games I have purchased this is definately an oculus favorite for me.
Nice puzzle game. I am a combat vet and have had head and neck injury so my puzzle solving skills aren't that great and I've become stuck quite a bit,the visuals are great and it is very immersive,I think this will help me out in the long run figuring things out. Excellent job on this devs, Just finished this masterpiece,it is easily now one of my favorites!
