Come to Quest! Love it! Simple but also very detailed. I love those little sheep jumping through the fields and that bird flying over the board and landing in that tree :) It is still a bit of a drag to connect with friends on different headsets (tekst each other the code for a private game), but it is possible to play on one tabel with Quest, Rift and Go.
New to Catan. I recently played Catan on the original board game. Although, I lost two out of three, I had fun playing. So, I thought that I'd give this a try. Having the board set up for you is a plus. The game flows easily enough, except for when it's my turn.
When the game is won, it doesn't show how. I have to assume it was from victory point cards, but it doesn't show the cards. I counted three cities and the largest army, that's 8 victory points. They had two development cards, but it never showed them. It needs to show ALL of the victory points. There is plenty of room between the edge of the play area and the edge of the game board to show the victory point cards.
It's a solid 4 stars. If they tweak the AI a bit and show ALL of the victory points at the end, it may get changed to 5 stars.
***UPDATE*** In response to the devs reply to my review. After playing the AI a little more, I do find personalities. Predictable personalites. The dice rolls are pretty predictable, too. Whenever I make a good play (not always, but too often to be random), the next AI player rolls a "7", the next AI player then plays a knight card AND rolls a "7" and the final "7" of the round is rolled by the last AI player. Yes, I am frequently cleaned out of up to four cards. Some form of this happens nearly every game. Also, nothing was mentioned about the showing of the Victory Point Cards to show how the victory happened. Please put some attention on these issues and you'll get a "5" rating from me. Otherwise, a solid "4" rating.
***UPDATE 2*** - Just played last night and this happened. The (AI) player to my right was up big (8 points to our 3 points), the (AI) player to my left puts the robber on me and takes a card. WTF? That same (AI) player had no problem with trading with that (AI) player that was leading big. I didn't get rolls or trade with the (AI) players, because they wouldn't trade with me. AND YA STILL HAVEN'T FIXED SHOWING THE VICTORY POINTS! - 1 star.
Great game for VR, but lacking details. I've played the real game with friends and via table top sim, but having this is VR is great. Although its lacking in some areas which could really make this game the one in VR.
Here is a list of what I think could make this better..
Some character animation would be good, mouth movement when players are talking.
Dice rolls could be controlled by the player and rolled onto the table. Rather than the computer already RNG'ing the outcome.
More interactivity with the cards and clearer instructions of what cards do what.
More board animation and details
Hopefully the devs continue work on this and expand on it now we have the quest 2 version.
Nice vr game. 5 stars = 4 stars with the best graphics 4 stars = definitely a realy good investment, will spent a lot of time with it 3 stars = works perfectly, would probably even give some money for it 2 stars =good enough to keep it installed and open it from time to time, wouldn't buy it (again) 1 star = wouldn't buy or install it again but did try / didn't work properly
Come to Quest! Love it! Simple but also very detailed. I love those little sheep :) But all my friends have Oculus Quest. Why is this game not for the Quest?! That really sucks!
Well design done game - need some update. Had this game for chritmas cause I played IRL sometime and it's really good, there is a community with some competition on discord.
It would be good to have the devs listenning to our feedback and had want we want for the game to be even better but w/e.
This game is great! If you like board games it is a must have. The multiplayer community for this game has increased since oculus go and PSVR support has been added. If you are looking for players to play with, the best place to find players is on the Catan VR League discord where we have friendy competitive games and also fun games, then you can join the discord through the website https://catanvr.club/ and there are players at all times of the day looking for games. As well, you can go to the catan VR discord server https://discord.gg/A8WpAKq (Experiment 7 is the name of developer and name of discord server). The game just has so much polish and the tavern room that is the background looks so great and there is also like a Japan style room too. The game itself plays perfectly and I have only noticed like one minor bug that happens and I will tell you how to fix it if it happens to you. If you take your headset off during a game sometimes there is a bug that causes you to lose the ability to communicate (hearing and speaking to others) and the only fix is to leave and come back. So if you are waiting for a game to start and this happens, leave and come back and it will be fixed. If you have already started your game, then you must finish your game before you can communicate again. Now if you are in the later situation, you can still communicate by using the trade windows so the game is still playable just less convenient for that current game.
Fun! But needs a few tweaks! Pretty good, especially since I just played the tabletop version in real life the other day. Just went straight in, and figured out the user interface as I went. A couple of thinks I think would be a cool feature in future updates....
1) An option to angle the board toward you a little bit, or change the orientation so you can play sitting back or lying down. I was sitting on a chair straight up, and putting my neck on a constant angle down to see the board while playing definitely caused a little strain on my neck. The nice part is that you can change near/far orientation and height. That helped with a small sacrifice to depth of the board. To be able to play sitting back in a chair or lying down would be awesome.
2) The ability to hold and throw the dice. That would be really good for the immersion
3) When moving the robber, the card is given to you at random. I think we should be able to choose the card.
Otherwise, fun game if you have some friends to play it with. Kinda scared of going solo queue and getting a bunch of kids who just wanna scream in your ear.
Lacking in interactivity. Great to be able to play with friends in these times of "lockdown", but the game is lacking a lot of interactivity for what I would expect from a very simple VR game. Its VR, we have hands, why can't I roll the dice with my hands? Why is every action performed with a cursor when I have fingers that I can press buttons with? Why are players avatars static? Make mouths move / beards wobble / sheep bells clang with player voice / movements. Go speak to the people who make Pokerstars VR and get these QoL features in the game. Will the expansion game boards be added?
love love love. something to play after all the shooting and puzzle games when is the next game coming? one thing I noticed, the AI players seem to be programed to trade with each other first , giving them an advantage
