Two hours in, and... If you've played classic JRPGs such as the first Dragon Warrior & Final Fantasy games, this title will likely bring a smile to your face. If you've wondered what a straight port of such game in VR would look like, this is it!
The game is very simple, but properly challenging. The monsters are cute but you forget all about that when you see the damage they inflict. Level-ups and equipment upgrades are meaningful. It doesn't appear to make use of your hands in the way that an Action-RPG would, so don't go into this expecting to swing your weapon or hoist your shield. I haven't run into any bugs or glitches at all, so I appreciate the quality and thought put into this. Tried it both standing and sitting, and it's comfortable either way.
Great idea, 1 major flaw. I encourage anybody who played and loved classic JRPGs to buy this, especially for the asking price. This is sort of like being teleported into one of those games. The simple graphics actually end up being part of the appeal. Now the bad, which seems it could be easily fixed...the movement style is disconcerting, especially at first. Your character moves forward or turns a fixed distance, frame by frame. Even once you play for a little while, it still ruins the potential immersion of this title. On the other hand, this may prevent VR sickness for new users. The fix? Give us an option for smooth motion. It would really improve the experience. I won’t get sick and neither will any VR veteran. I do roller coaster and skydiving sims lol.
