Handpan VR introduces the unique and immersive experience of playing the hypnotic percussion instrument, the handpan.
You can now join our Discord server and meet other handpan players, take part in giveaways, ask us anything and have a lot of fun together! https://discord.gg/oburgames
Thanks to the latest hand tracking technology, Handpan VR allows you to improvise with ethereal sounds coming out of your hands, customize the music with various ambient sounds and beats, and an unlimited number of handpan loops you can record.
Whether you are an amateur or a professional handpan player, Handpan VR is a great way to carry this rare, new generation hand hammered steel instrument wherever you are.
As we continue to develop Handpan VR, and since our users offer us suggestions and request new features, we decided to post a list of updates that we plan to release in the near future.
Features in the next update (v2.0): - New handpan scales - Beat maker - Adjustable metronome - Sound bank selection for beats and ambients - Save/Load - Record and share songs - Introductory tutorial - Play with controllers - Real environments - Adjustable height
Needs more handpans/notes. It's better than I expected and at $4 I think it's fairly priced. However, it gets boring fairly quickly with just a single handpan. It needs multiples or ideally the ability to customize each note on the drum. Do that and I'd recommend it to people at $15. I don't like the idea of selling more handpans as DLC. Give us full customization at a base price.
Great start. Really great app look good sounds good and fair price. Please add enviroments to choose and option to learn how to play with it. Great work. Thank you 😊
Good. It is a good application if you do not own a real handpan. Worth the 4 bucks. It is good but the quality of the hand tracking (metas fault) and the fact that you cannot save tracks prevents it from 5 stars.
Superb value, hope the dev continues. Ultimately I think this could be a powerful gem of an app (with a larger market and justified price increase) if the rough edges are smoothed out and an alternative focus (or repivot) on meditative playing and learning.
Personally, I'm not interested in mixing etc, though I get that a lot of people are. I think adding quality immersive scenery, with no on screen gizmo distractions, just the instrument would be great.
A significant learning enhancement a la Piano Vision style, teaching the user notes by displaying them to be touched would be a great selling point.
Tbf I've only had a brief look at it and some of this may already be available, but it seems a unique opportunity to mix meditation and music playing and learning.
Great start! Please continue :). What I liked * Very good sound * Ability to alter the sounding of each hand (gloves, etc) * Nice environments
Points for improvement * Add more instruments (e.g. I have one with 8 tones) and scales * Treat index and thumb fingers differently (now they produce same sounds) * Treat ding, rim differently (now sound is the same) * Hitting in between tones results in nearest tone sound (bug/feature?). Same with trying to play shoulder. * Maybe optimize tracking performance somehow? Not sure but fast hand movements are not always working well.
とにかく、素晴らしい仕事とよくやったと思います。Youtube「Very Potential VR music instrument "Handpan VR" gameplay」とFacebook VR groupにレビューを投稿しました。これからもよろしくお願いします!

The more you dig, the more fun you get. Worth for 3.99 to play amazing instrument “Handpan” in VR. Comes with drum machine, loop recorder, environment effect sounds. Although it’s not perfect in this stage. But if you dig it more, still have lots of fun. In fact, I would like to ask the refund in the first 10 mins. Then I decided to take a break for a day. Took a look on real handpan video on Youtube. Played it again in another day. Well it would be a nice VR game if you love music creation. Recommended!
Dev Team Suggestion: I believe you will keep doing good job on it. Many reviewers've provided lots of feedback. My suggestion is if the loop can be overdub until the player stops recording. That will be easier to use. Another is it's nice to auto-launch the recording by knock the first note. But what if I would like to fill nothing at the first note. lol.
Anyway, great jobs and well done. I've posted my review on Youtube "Very Potential VR music instrument “Handpan VR” gameplay" and Facebook VR group. Keep going!

I wanna bang on the drum all day ;). Found an interesting item in the Oculus App Lab called Handpan. As you know, App Lab games are often still in development, i.e. beta versions, etc. Y’all need to be more patient with App Lab devs no matter what game we’re talking about.
Anyway. This is not a game but a music instrument simulator. I was really happy to find this app. Handpan grabbed my interest because I do play doumbek (a Middle Eastern hand drum) and djembe for fun occasionally. I have actually seen/heard a handpan played in the wild; sometime in 2019, there was a gentleman at our local drum circle with the real deal. The sounds he could get out of that drum were amazing.
Back to the review.. for a version 0.1 app, I did not expect to find the variety of ambient sounds or the options that are already there in-game. I LOVE the on-hand menus. It does take some time practicing to figure out how to hit the drum to get different notes/sounds. The hand tracking isn’t perfect but that is Meta’s fault, NOT the Handpan devs. For those of you having trouble playing, please look up “how to play handpan” videos on Youtube. Handpans are not played the same way as a doumbek - you mainly use your index fingers and thumbs on a handpan, while doumbek is played with a flat hand using more fingers. Once I figured that out, I spent way more time playing this :) The sounds from the drum can best be described as ethereal and once you mix in some ambient beats, it can turn into something like downtempo/chill music (if that’s what you like - I do.) It’s very much a meditative / flow sort of experience once you get into it, much like making music in real life can be. I understand that an adjustable metronome and drum height are options coming soon, among other things. Looking forward to seeing how this develops and playing along.
Tl;dr: Very cool app. Definitely would rate this a comfortable experience, suitable for everyone. 5/5 stars.
Handpan. I'm a professional handpan Musician, 15 yrs this is good but needs more scales to play , rest is great . Great Vr experience for this instrument However without added scales the price is expensive at this current stage of development
It is good, but got bored pretty quickly. I love the concept. If you guys are having trouble with hand tracking, I'd look up options for infrared lighting. I have a device that hooks to side of quest like a mini infrared flash light. Back to the game/simulation...I like the scenery. Would be nice to import own options. If I could play with a friend, I'd be happy. Not bad though. There does seem to be a little lag with tapping. I mean, we're touching an object that isnt there...so, I get the complexity. Definitely wont be using it to record music, but I don't do that anyways lol.
Definately some long term enjoyment. *disclosure - I recieved my copy as a gift, but I was looking at getting it myself already
This is something that will only become smoother as meta updates the handtracking overtime, but at the moment it works quite well already!
Before anything, make sure you have good lighting to give the headset the best chance at tracking your hands.
After adjusting the above halfway through my first session, I was able to play with no issue and even managed to record a nice loop after playing about.
The menu around the handpan are responsive and easy to use, and not a clutter to navigate. Overall I didn't have any bugs (besides hand tracking issues but thats on the OS side not handpan) and it was a fun smooth experience.
I will definately be using this as apart of my relaxation/mindfulness exercises!!
Got bored quickly. I've also wanted to try this instrument and it's fantastic to have it in VR. It's pretty polished already. Unsurprisingly controllers work better than hand tracking (not the game's fault). Very frustrating to miss a beat because of this. But they've thought of every adjustment except height! The drum is too low. I think adding more variety is a good idea, I lost interest pretty quickly (mostly because of the height issue).
Minutes after posting this review I played it again in much brighter lighting conditions. Rolls work and the tracking is smoother.
So if you’re having issues play it under the brightest lighting you can, (but not in the sun of course. 😁)
This is now a solid five star app.
Original Review:
This is the first VR musical instrument I’ve ever purchased. I’ve been interested in steel tongue drums and handpans for a while. I plan to get a steel tongue drum someday but handpans are way beyond my budget, so I jumped at the chance to try a virtual version.
I hesitated giving it five stars because there are issues with the tracking, but from what I can tell the issues are limitations with the hand tracking technology, not the developers software so I hate to knock off a star for something beyond their control.
But the issues are there and they do limit this simulation.
One limitation of hand tracking is that it can’t track rapid movements which limit what you can do on a drum. Fast rolls don’t seem possible at this point, but maybe I’ll figure out a technique to work around the tracking. You can strike the drum harder to get louder sounds. My guess is that if the code sees your hand disappear from a high position then reappear on the drum it calculates the distance between frames to determine the volume.
Despite the limitations, I feel this is absolutely worth buying if you have any interest in handpans.
Nice musical instrument to play , and .. First, thank you developers for this handpan VR instrument, I enjoyed playing it. One suggestion, Can we have hand drums 🥁 too to play along with the handpan together if possible. Allow to have different size of hand drums and handpans to choose from. Also to have more maps or 360 photo ( outdoor in opened air with colorful tree, fowers, birds and ocean views ) if possible. Keep up the great work and please continue to add more options and updates to this VR game. Thank you
I only saw now that it has the mandatory internet connection to use the app. why does such an app that is not a multiplayer game need a mandatory connection during use ???
also the price is really exaggerated for what it does and for its current stage of development! it should cost no more than 5-10 euros
Your app is great! But I have two needs, I hope you can help me achieve! 1. I need Chinese very badly 2. I have high-end hand plates to choose from! 10 tones and so on. Can you understand my comment? because i use google translate
Being a new app I’m willing to cut it some slack. Let’s start with a bad, I hate how the menus work when using controllers. Content wise it’s very light. But it’s not misrepresented in the trailer or anything so I guess I just hoped for more.
All that being said, I was having a bunch of fun playing the hand pan, and am looking forward to playing it more. I’m really terrible at looping etc but even this aspect I enjoyed even though my results were spectacular fails.
I’d say if you just want to hit a unique drum type and chillax than this app might be the one you are looking for.
