Perfect, 5/5. Having now played this a few hours I am upgrading to 5/5. This is a perfect game. I started playing this on easy and was initially kinda bored until later levels, but still found it mindless satisfying fun. I made it to the final boss in a few sessions then died. I am not sure what happened but I think seeing the whole thing released me of the burden of ammo conservation, careful exploration, etc and let me just enjoy it. Now I can't put it down and it is my go-to unwind game.
It is a perfect game if you need a break. The levels are short, 1-4 minutes each, it's never obvious what's around each corner, the animations, sound, amd music all work together to give it a nice 80s feel, and there is a good amount of humor and love put into it. Honestly these days I just love shooting up the office floor, punching out windows and exploding water jugs. It's so stupid and fun.
This game has very, very high replay value, maybe even approaching that of In Death Unchained. I will probably put more than 20 hours into it, so good bang for buck.
Oh and I just found the mutations vending machine, which will prompt even a few more play-throughs after I have thoroughly worn out the default style. There is no sign of me wearing out the default style yet.
Great Game + 25% DISCOUNT. As someone who enjoys Rougelikes, this game was high on my list, and I did not regret buying it!
The pixel art style might be not for everyone, but it works perfectly. I really enjoy that developers managed to create a very nice immersion by working on small details. Like the fact that you can destroy decorations (trees, fancy lighting blubs, etc.) I also enjoy the humor in messages on the wall. Those are small things, but they make everything come together in an amazing way.
The gameplay loop is addictive and challenging at the same time, plus you can add a lot of different modifiers to "spice up" every run, which greatly increases variability.
Overall, it is an amazing and addictive experience!

Decided to give it a shot. Was very skeptical cause the very simple graphics... come to find out this game is very addicting, actually one of the best single player games I've played. Great for a 10 min playthrough or keep playing for a while, only thing that could've made it better I'd if you saved topless chick's like in Conan for the 360... didn't notice any control or weapon flaws, pretty smooth constant action from start to finish and would totally recommend
SO. MUCH. FUN! This is such a great game, so well thought out and executed beautifully. It is now easily one of my favourite video games of all time. Here’s a short list of a few things I wrote down that I love about COMPOUND.
- The 16 bit graphics - The sound effects, especially the guns, explosions, bullets wooshing by and hearing enemies approaching. - The guns, unlocking them, reloading them shooting them. - The funny generic NPC dialogue “Lovely weather we’re having don’t you agree?” “There he is.” “Kill him.” - Dodging enemy bullets - Generative levels for infinite replayability - All the different “modifier” game modes - endlessly repayable, customizable difficulty. - The game mode vending machine / shower interface - The accountant boss that looks like Hitler - Ability to throw things / people (Hitler) out the window - Ability to shoot almost anything in the levels that smash or explode, very satisfying. - Ability to use bodies as shields - All of the funny signs - The overall (prescient?) story about an evil pharma company and corporate greed - The shooting range - The test area - The difficulty selection interface - Breaking open the glass on the emergency guns - The trophies - The BFG waiting to be unlocked - The rag doll physics - The music - The *compound* bow - Blowing up several enemies with one shot - Shooting enemies in the head / leg / stomach / groin - Shooting enemies from really far away - Luring enemies into the lasers in the warehouse - The bosses and the final helicopter battle - the way Booster Bruce continues to fly around for a couple seconds after you kill him - the Bouncy shotgun - the Discord server where the dev is active and friendly
Exactly what you want! Compound gave me the feeling i was looking for in this type of game. Especially with the "Old School" mutation. It is so much fun to run around these maps, killing everything. The music is perfect, and the exact vibe I needed to run around this game til my quest died.
Great game I think I know why it crashes. I think I've worked out why it keeps crashing on the oculus quest. There seems to be a problem with the ammo tracking code.
If I pick up ammo for any gun but the dart gun, when that ammo reserve is already full, and do that around 2-4 times during the whole game (not sure how many exactly) the game always seems to crash (freeze) on a later level, possibly the next level. (extra ammo packs are always automatically dropped if you have a full reserve already, the tracking of this seems to not be working)
If I keep track of my ammo reserve, and make sure I never attempt to overfill the reserve, the game does not seem to crash.
The dart gun seems to have ammo packs in sets of 5 that each allow 7 shots. as long as I do not fill the reserve to 30 shots, I can see the helicopter. if I fill it to 30 from anything over 25 shots, I think the game also crashes.
This probably isn't an issue in higher levels where you are unlikely to get enough ammo to fill the reserves
Lost its allure quickly... Yes, it is good! Plenty of weapons with quirky features. Challenge for days. A visual, tiered achievement board. Awesome music. Different experiences made even whackier with the mutations. But, the level of hard in this game is a bit much. Playing on hard for as long as I have and I've only gotten the gold achievement for two mutations. I have no hope of trying to get anymore. The cheezy hitboxes, limited health, and "well, you didn't get the right weapon for this boss. Guess you are Fwacked!" really made me just wanna put the game down and never try again. Not going to be that guy that rates it 1 * because I suck at this game. It's good. If you like hard games, get it. If you like Doom graphics, get it. If you don't want the same gun-game VR experience other games give you, get this. I just don't see myself trying to get the rest of the achievements, and beyond the occasional party, that's all this game will be for me. Once in a while.
My Review + 25% OFF. This is so much fun! A first-person shooter with retro graphics, with a few different weapons and challenges that yield good times of fun. The only thing I didn't like is the way the game works, advancing until the character dies and then having to play it all over again.
A+. I always wanted to be in one of those NES games when I was a kid, and buddy- this is it. The physics are fantastic, the visuals are amazing, and the tacit storyline is just right. I have no idea how many hours I've racked up playing, but it's a shameful amount. The fact that each board is freshly generated so you mever play the same layout twice is *chef's kiss*. My only regret is that there aren't more games like this.
Pretty perfect, 4.8/5 is accurate.

It's amazing! This game is absolutely amazing and I feel pumped when I play! I also have a suggestion for a modifier: This modifier changes the game where you start and can pick any weapon, but only one, it essentially changes that run into a one weapon only challenge, and enemies only drop the kind of ammo the weapon you chose has (compound bow not included in this challenge btw) and the enemies drop ammo a little more often, but you can only use the weapon you chose and you can't get other weapons during the run. I call this modifier "Pick n' Choose"
well done! Gameplay is king here, having so much fun it completely overshadowed even the flatscreen fps titles I play. Although game markets itself as retro it has plenty of innovative mechanics that have been playtested to hell and back. Graphics are ultra smooth, permanently locked at 120hz making other quest games look like a choppy mess in comparison.
A quest 2 game that's not a downgrade. I played the pcvr version of this game and the experience and graphics is 1:1. Game runs smoother since I don't have to deal with AMD GPU issues(not a game issue but my AMD setup)
This game is a modern take on Doom especially when you unlock a certain "mutator". The enemy design is incredible. You can tell Bevan( the single developer) has a love for various B movies of the yester-year.
Graphics are well stylized, this art style works wonders. In my opinion, it is one of the best looking games on the quest 2 store and steam.
Interaction with the weapons are easy to get into but yet involved. Each gun provides a different play style.
There are a few different adjustments to help players with comfort and controls. There is a shooting range to practice with the guns you have unlocked.
Music was done by Speed Black, it has an incredible vibe that fits well with this game. Each level has its own theme that's a reflection of the level design. Sound effects are very well done as well. Certain enemies have voice overs as well.
Once you complete a loop, you'll get bits and pieces of the story. There are multiple endings available. If you look around the level, you can also piece together a narrative.
Since this is rouge-like, there is quite a bit of replayability. There are many achievements to unlock, which once unlocked, you are presented with actually virtual trophies.
Bevan (the solo developer) has a discord where he is very active. Between talking about the actual game, addressing concerns or development, he's a very nice guy. He's interested in advancing VR games instead of purely making a dollar and you can see that with this game. Other devs should take note on how to be involved with their customers and how to be transparent.
Fun Rougelike. Fun Rougelike you can definitely sink some time into and have some fun in. If you're curious about it but want it cheaper here's my code below

Replace the "dot" with "." And it should work.

My childhood but in VR. Amazing game, I've beaten it several times on easy and have a 50% completion overall. It feels like playing the games I grew up like doom, Wolfenstein, and rise of the triad, almost surreal sometimes when thinking about how I originally played compared to now. Worth the purchase, great game, 10/10 would recommend.
It's a must have. I played this back on the PC when it was still in beta, but the quest 2 in my eyes is the definitive version. Is the same with no graphical degradation or framerate issues, and as long as they have their VR legs anyone can play it. But just like me you can sink in hours into it. It's one of the best game feeling games on here.
Awesome Game. Not the best graphics, but it doesn't matter. I can't stop playing this game. Haven't gotten all the way through it, doesn't stop me from trying. I have gotten to the 2nd lab or zombie level. Once. Can't wait to play again! I have only gotten 48% through. One day I might get through. I am 52, so my gameplay doesn't come close to a kid. This is a definite buy, IMO.
Compound looks basic, gameplay is basic, and objective is basic, but the game is still ridiculously fun. Just goes to show that VR games don't need to be graphically improved or have a realistic tone. VR games are about putting fantasy into real life, which compound does exactly.
Compound is a dungeon crawler that, admittedly is repetitive at times, in which you go through floors of a building and kill enemies of each floor until you reach the top. Every floor has its own structure and unique niche that lasts three floors that hold a boss. It is nice and fun to play the first time around, but to play this game repeatedly is definitely a struggle and taking breaks to not become bored is necessary.
Retro-fan or not, the art style has a unique flair that other VR games don't have. Other VR games are all about looking realistic, but having a nice and basic 3-D retro experience is charming to finally have graphical variety.
The gameplay is simple. Shoot and reload. Although this further proves that gameplay doesn't need to be exceeding or complex. The satisfying sounds of the gunsband the smoke or explosions are eye candy to look at.
The story isn't something that is deep or game-altering if you don't know any lore. It's just the clay that holds the foundation for the rest of the game.
I love how this game is nothing complex, but also amazing. Compound let's other developing games realize that not everything needs to be realistic and complex but rather become unique. I recommend it to everyone because it's simple and easy to learn gameplay.
As a big fan of roguelites, I adore this game. It reminds me of playing Wolfenstein 3D as a child, but idealized and perfected for the new medium. I’ve introduced shooter fans to VR using this title because of its playful interactivity and incredible sense of aesthetics, with very positive results. The apartment base is a neat little museum of VR interactivity, the guns are punchy and well thought out. Runs are very intense and combat focused. Exploration is minimal, but it’s fun to progress through the levels, anticipating the unique risks on each floor. The final boss has a great setpiece and is always a pleasure. Also, the OST is stellar. This is one of my favorite experiences on quest, and the best shooter I’ve played in years. Definitely worth the money.

Amazing roguelite 10/5 stars. I have a hard time getting myself to play VR most of the time, no real reason I love VR just hard to start. Well this game doesn't have that problem I think about wanting to and then bam I pop it on and am playing! Having a game like this without the horror aesthetic is so great. I don't mind horror but I'm jumpy so it's not always what I want, sometime I just want to shoot silly dudes that go "He'S oVeR ThEre" in a silly voice
