Top tier painting app. Truly stunning. It’s one of the best VR art apps available, and the resolution on Quest 3 is jaw-dropping. Vermillion is made by a single developer named Thomas, and he’s active on the discord channel where you’ll also find a friendly community of painters from all levels of experience and styles. Using this app has been one of the most rewarding VR experiences I’ve found. If you’re interested in highly-realistic painting without the mess, you will not be disappointed.
very relaxing. very nice and relaxing. Please make it possible to save the positions of the objects (easel, etc.). Sometimes I like to paint standing, other times sitting or even lying down. I do not went to spend 5 minutes rearranging things every time. A pencil or charcoal for sketching would be handy, too. Please also make it possible to disable auto-save and maybe introduce an easy reachable button (maybe on the easel) to manually quick-save.
I'm not a painter but... I have dabbled in digital art with a stylus and tablet. This program is intensely sophisticated. Almost too many options, if that's possible. I may have been a bit too ambitious for my first attempt, but I was actually very pleased with my result (the exported version looks a lot better than in the headset). I wanted this for the ability to follow a Bob Ross tutorial, but the projection feature is a game changer (thought it was "cheating," but believe me, it only gets you halfway there).
Speaking of tutorials, I got bored with the ones included. It's much more fun to discover and work things out as you go. I started off with simple flat colors and by the end was mixing paint and messing with opacity with the thinner like a pro.
There's really not much I can think to improve it except maybe two things: wish we could lock down the projected image's position. More than once I was adjusting brush sizes while pointed at the original on the browser and didn't realize I was shifting the projection up and down. Second, maybe a way to toggle the projection on and off from the controller. Constantly aiming at the menu icon to do it is tedious (this might exist... Like I said, I skipped the tutorial).
Otherwise this is a really solid product, 4-1/2 stars!
UPDATE: I was considering Painting VR for the paint by numbers but really didn't want 2 painting apps. And you've gone ahead and added it here! 5 stars!
Great App! It took a while but I’m starting to really enjoy painting this way. At first I felt that the set up kept moving away from me which I found very frustrating as I spent more time travelling around the room than painting. Now I found the process easier each time I started up. I would like to know how to keep everything in one place once I get it the way I like it but it is still a bit finiky. Can someone please tell me about the paint by numbers and what to do if my sometimes shaky hand moves outside the line? Also, how do I know what brush is best for whatever I’m doing? Thanks.
Learning as I go. I love this app. Even though I have not really figured it out. Lol. That is my own fault for not spending enough time in it. I am not a painter but always wanted to try. I have a small home, so there is no room to set up a paint area. This is the solution. And I'm absolutely ecstatic that paint by numbers is offered. A new year's goal is to spend a lot more time in this app.
Incredible. Just get it. You will not be disappointed. Vermillion has all the tools and options you’ll need to drift away and create some amazing artwork. You can make it simple or explore its depth. Yes painting in Vermillion VR is just about everything you would hope for. Update Dec 2023: all new paint by numbers is out and is a great add-on. If you’ve never painted or are a pro you will love the app. It is amazing how this app keeps getting better in a big way. The developer also provides unparalleled support. Best in class app.
Marvellous!! + Painting by numbers DLC. I study watercolours in real life since about one year and I never had the chance to try oil painting. Vermillion is an amazing app, it can simulate oil painting, color mixing, having the possibility to paint with pass-trough where I can see my relatives in the rooms without isolating doing my hobby. I also love so much the easel, it's build with an incredible smartness, it has been an instant love as easy it is to adjust, and I love the sound it makes. I also love so much the ambience sounds. It's wonderful that the moment the app starts for the first time there is a tutorial on the virtual YouTube/web browser, teach how to have the first results in VR oil painting without touching the frustration thx being guided so well and with so much passion from the YouTuber Markus Franz which made an amazing tutorial. The developer Thomas is a great person and is very responsive on the discord if we have any question he is always there with his great kindness, he is a very talented developer who made a marvellous app!!
If you are Italian: Inoltre è anche localizzato in italiano! Davvero una figata quest'app provatela! ;)
Edit. I wish to add a few words to the painting by numbers update. It's simply opera by a genius, it's the best bridge I know to touch with hands the painting process and the experimentation to get close advanced techniques without having yet (me) developed the experience to paint that quality. It could become a valid tool of study for me, a wonderful DLC.
Nice. Love the game but I find the “paint by number” thing challenging. Best painting game i’ve played but sometimes I get headaches from playing. Overall its a 9.5/10. Keep up the good work!
I also have to work on my artistic skills a bit… 🤧
Amazing. I love Vermillion- thank you for giving me a way to express myself in VR. The app works as described. Color blending, brush presser, strokes all work relatively true to life. Plus tons of features that you can’t do in a real life studio.
Just awesome. If you're interested in creating art, Vermillion is the must have app. It just feels amazing to paint in it. Digital Oil painting at its finest. In my opinion it should cost much more. As far as I know it's just one guy programming this App and he definitely knows what he's doing.
If you read this it means you're at least slightly interested in Vermillion so buy it you wouldn't regret it.
A Virtual Retreat for Artistic Serenity. Diving into this VR painting game was a soothing escape into a realm of creativity. The virtual canvas felt like my personal sanctuary, where I could effortlessly bring my imagination to life. The serene landscapes served as the perfect backdrop, enhancing the overall relaxation. The intuitive controls made the experience accessible, even for someone like me with limited artistic skills. Exploring the vast palette of colors and tools provided endless avenues for expression. It's not just a game; it's a therapeutic journey that left me feeling rejuvenated and inspired. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a digital haven to unwind and unleash their artistic side.
