*The Paper Birds story continues with the addition of PART TWO.* Paper Birds (Part I & II) is a 30 minute interactive story about a young musician in search of true inspiration. Starring Ed Norton, Joss Stone, and Archie Yates, this VR film offers unique moments of interactivity with hand tracking, inviting you to conduct music, unlock portals, light up the invisible world, and more.
In Part Two, Toto journeys deeper into the invisible world to rescue his sister Azul, discovering more about himself and his family as he travels further.
This experience premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2021 and La Biennale di Venezia in 2020. This film is brought to you by 3dar, the creators of Gloomy Eyes.
Recommendations: It’s highly recommended to watch the full experience at once. Music is a big part of this experience. We suggest using headphones. Dialogue is audible and can be heard better by getting closer to the characters. Enabling hand tracking is highly recommended.
Wouldn't let kids under 10 watch really. Interesting experience but i found it annoying not always knowing where to look and having the scenes totally in my face. The interaction was cool but i felt the theme with the darkness could give some kids nightmares - so play it alone before giving it to your young kids .
Yes it is 30 minutes long. This is 30 minutes of great direction. Of beautiful art. Of actual animation work. Of wonderful music. Of good voice acting. Of hit and miss interaction.
Audioless….. Tried removing and reinstalling, the second time installing I just sat there patiently waiting thinking maybe it was a glitch when doing too many things at once.
Obviously it didn’t work which brings me here in hopes of a response to repair. Looking forward to being able to enjoy the app. Please help. Thank you -N
Really liked this! I was unsure If I would like this because I'm not a fan of cartoon type games, but this was great. It actually uses a few different styles, and it employs a dark, brooding design. I feel that it's about what happens when fear and self doubt threaten to consume you, but it's told in allegory form, through the eyes of a young boy and his sister, and it uses music as a part of the story, to great effect. Very very good.

No multiplayer but….workaround…. So me and 2 of my friends really wanted to experience this together. All three of us connected through Oculus Party Chat then we clicked play at the same time. We could only hear each other but we experienced the 30 minute “movie” together…..
SO MAGICAL! So many “ohhhhhhhs!!! Ahhhhhhhssssss!!!”
Mh.. Mh so and so..some parts are really cute as the interactive playing with sounds, even the graphic, but I found the overall story a bit too much dark with not that great connection between facts. I would not rebuy at such a price (around 6€), maybe at a lower price yes
Pretty, I prefer immersive VR. This is a very nicely done, pretty animation. The story makes zero sense. It’s super metaphorical and symbolic but it just doesn’t add up, which doesn’t matter because you’ll be watching it for the visuals. It’s not immersive, you very much watch a miniature play unfold around you. Very cool if you’re into that kind of thing. Personally I prefer feeling like I’m in another world altogether (examples: Star Wars games or Room). So I was a little disappointed, but that’s just because of my own preferences. Overall a good experience, considering the affordable price.
Wow! This was really, really great. The animation was awesome. It was all beautiful. The story, the look, the sound, the music. I wish I could watch more of this. Really great. Even for an old one like me (59 years old).

Absolutely gorgeous. This was so beautiful. So immersive and powerful. We’ll done!
Crashing ! This is an amazing experience until one of the last scenes when using hand tracking to follow the music glowing lines, then create the spirals and art type lines then it crashes.
Where is the second part?. Hello, I finished the first part and it was great, but I did not find the second part. Where can I find the second part, or it has not yet been released for us?
Beautiful and immersive animation. I was blown away by the animation and story. The whole experience is beautiful, just like everything else from Baobab studios. This story is more mature than others like “Bonfire”. It was an amazing 30 minutes and I recommend to anyone that enjoys being swept away in a story.
Potential But Falls Short. So I liked the visuals a lot, you can tell a lot of work went into creating this. However I had to continually hit my oculus button to get the scene back in the correct shot. They pan left and right but I guess expect you to be on a swivel chair if you’re sitting. Which I was not. Continually having to hit the button to ensure I could see what I was suppose to took away from the experience DRASTICALLY. I missed several scenes just cause I didn’t realize they again panned and I had to hit button to see.
I would recommend to developer to please auto adjust the scene instead of relying on the viewer to be able to physically swivel to the correct position.
Another thing I struggled with was the suggested hand tracking. It’s a newer thing for me and I didn’t realize I needed to hide my oculus controllers for it to have a better chance of registering my hands rather than the controllers that were off to the aide. So that didn’t work well for me and also took away from experience, because I was spending too much of the scene trying to get the hand tracking to work, and then missed opportunities to interact.
The audio was good during narration but I struggled to hear the characters themselves even when getting closer to them. Also there wasn’t an option for subtitles, which isn’t great for hard of hearing folks and the deaf community. Please add subtitles to make this accessible to all.
Then that brings me to the story itself…I was left pretty freaking confused hahah. The story felt very lacking and cryptic to me. Perhaps I missed out on critical points because I was continually having to adjust the screen to view, then struggling to get the hand tracking working, and even having a hard time hearing the characters? Or maybe it was just a confusing plot.
Even considering all that I gave it 3 stars because the visuals really were cool. I really like the claymation style stuff. I enjoyed going from being a larger viewer to down to their size as well.
I’ll give it 5 stars if they fix the screen panning thing, as I don’t have a swivel chair to keep up, add subtitles, and if using the actual controllers for interacting works better.
Beautiful art and beautiful story. Not as interactive as the description makes it out to be, but it’s a beautiful story told in an innovative way. Highly recommend!
