Fun but confusing. I would give this 5 stars if it weren’t for some issues - a few of the ingredients I can’t figure out. - the canister that has the twist off lid how do you pour this ? The second I take the almost impossible to twist click the lid off it just goes poof - anything that requires a twist the hand grips don’t really latch on good enough - the launch lever is hard sometimes to hold down the entire time for loading - in the ingredients section the scrolling is very slow and laggy and easily bounces back to where you just were. After you buy something it brings you to the top of the list again so you painfully have to scroll all the way back down again. - the 2 orange doors are very confusing. If I’m building something I always end up going to the exit door instead of the loading dock area - in daily shift you should be able to use your most up to date upgraded machines.
If these were fixed it would by far be a 5 star game. The replay ability is good and endless mode will be awesome when it comes.
Oddly addictive. I'm on a break from my shift so I thought I'd pop in here for a review.
I don't do well with time limits or stress, but this is still enjoyable (I'm only on my 4th shift so can't talk about the whole game). It helps to have multitasking skills, which I didn't think I did but this game is bringing them out. It was a real breakthrough when I realized I had two machine pads and I could pull up the next one needed while waiting for the juicer to finish. Building your own machines scratches a whole other itch and it's a clever feature. RILEE is hilarious and I generally don't mind the company.
But it's not perfect. The most challenging part so far is grabbing the glasses without spilling them. And if you add the garnish in the order the recipe shows you're equally likely to grab the garnish instead (pro tip: put the glass on the customer's area, then add garnish as a final flourish. You'll thank me later). Also I don't know if this is a bug, but after buying a blueprint the only way I can get it to load is to exit the game completely and restart. That's a bit tedious.
I bought Cooking Simulator first but I seem to have a real knack for making drinks (ironic, I don't touch them in real life). This is great fun once you get into the groove.
(I also second the reviews thanking you for the free trial. That helped me decide to buy.)
Okay, my break is over. Gotta get back behind the bar!
A new personal favorite. Did the trial thinking I'd just play and uninstall. Bought the game and already $15 feels like an absolute steal between the daily run, endless mode and drink designer. Timesink potential is huge with fun gameplay, the skill ceiling and ability to be creative it just hits ally buttons.
Do the trial, stick with the campaign for the 30 minutes.
If you like that you'll love the whole game.
Awesome fun. Its a great game and i'm having a blast barreling through the campaign, but I have questions. a) Where is the Betle Juice, its in the shift mode but not in campaign mode? b) Why do my Mach3 machines revert to Mach2 machines in Shift mode? I worked hard to get them to Mach3 in order to have fun in doing the daily shifts, so its a bit frustrating that I'm relegated to the mach2 machines when doing them. c) Does Hand control not work? I cant seem to get it to work in this game
Good game but there is a problem. The game is very addicting and feels good to play, i didn't regret buying it. On the other hand, the game won't start (at least for me) if the oculus headset is not connected to the internet despite the description saying it doesn't need an internet connection to play. Please fix this issue in a future update.
Accessibility issues. UPDATE: still end up moving backwards by quite a bit when I play seated. I still have to recenter to get back closer to the bar. I’m not sure why it keeps doing that and doesn’t anchor me in place. So it’s still not that playable imo due to that issue. But thank you for the easy grab being adjusted. And I appreciate you getting back to me.
So I’d be happy to update this to 5 stars if devs fix.
It says sitting but even with short mode enabled you cannot reach higher items. If you are disabled and in a chair that is not a bar stool this will be impossible to play unfortunately.
However if devs implement a seated mode height adjustment system it will help and probably remedy this issue entirely.
Otherwise the graphics are fantastic and looks like it will be awesome but I have to go w 3.5 stars due to listing seated mode and not being able to play fully seated unless in a higher chair.
EDIT: hey! The height adjustable handles are great but I’m unable to grab the higher ones from a seated position. Maybe a point to grab system? It feels like overall w the short mode your eyes are just above the counter. And I reset the floor level w guardian so it seemed odd I wouldn’t be a bit higher up. I can also see kids wanting to play this even standing but some of the handles up top being a bit too hard to reach. Thanks for listening! Look forward to the update.
EDIT 2 & 3:
Yeah there’s no way to play this seated at all and it keeps moving me super far away from the counter and I’m constantly having to use the recenter button. Which is odd because I stationary and seated - there’s no way to move me far away. It seems using rotate/turn function will physically move you in the space backwards.
The above issue still stands so you cannot play seated - you keep moving further and further back and if you are in a chair you risk falling out because you don’t necessarily realize it’s happening until you go to grab something that should be closer but is so far out of reach.
So constantly having to recenter on a game where time matters is frustrating.
I appreciate easy grab though. Works much better
The other issue is height adjustment- I need to use 2 hands to do it because it’s so finicky. It jumps up to .50 offset extremely quickly and if I do get it to a height I want but then try to click the check mark as soon as I move off it - the heigh I wanted doesn’t stay.
So I still think it needs quite a few adjustments unfortunately and it’s still unplayable from a seated position sadly. :(
The experience you're looking for. Startenders is amazingly engaging and ramps up at a pace that is manageable and fun. The atmosphere keeps you hopping about different stations to serve customers and teaches you the basics very well. Once you know the gist you'll be tossing drinks and collecting tips with no effort. The world is interesting and the tools are endlessly fun to play with.
If you're coaching another player through an experience though, this is not the game for you, compatability issues with casting often result in a black screen or no connectivity at all.
That being said you won't find a better bar service/Sci fi title that scratches the itch you would want in such a title.
Review from an actual bartender. If you’re a bartender and are thinking about buying this game let me give you my two cents. First of all the game is beautiful and the cocktails and ingredients are really cool. The mechanics are also really great. It’s fun making the drinks and getting into a nice groove, my only problem is that the customers come way too soon after one another and I end up in the weeds pretty often and that’s why I don’t like playing lol. I’m a pretty fast bartender irl but man do I get overwhelmed in this bar lol. Tbh feels like I’m at work so unless you don’t mind that, this game can be lots of fun.
Great game but there's one problem. This is a really great game, but I've got one problem with it. (Although not important), there's not really any type of customization you can get. Also in the tutorial when it explains everything it says at one point that you can buy different gloves? I looked around and could not find that anywhere. Again, these aren't really important, but it'd make this game more fun with them.
Great game. This game is amazing the story is great same with the gameplay. I will say that at times the shifts can be stressful but it's still one of the best games I've played on the oculus. Trust me when I say it's worth the price
This game is gold 🍹. I usually play just a few games I have a long time in my library. I'm picky about the games I buy, cause usually I just a few of them. Of all the new games that released a couple of months ago, bartenders is one of the gems.
Thanks devs for making a playable demo, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.
The mechanics are so fun, the different ways how you can make the drinks is just pure fun. And over time when you get better and make different drinks, get faster and enjoy the rush thats where the game shines.
It's a very polished game. I hope we will get more updates soon ❤️🍹
Have a Tip: Buy This Game. Due to a clerical error, you have been enrolled in the Startenders Academy as an intergalactic mixologist. Now you have to earn enough tips to be able to buy the components necessary to build a teleporter that will take you back home.
Serve drinks. Impress your patrons by flipping bottles, double-pouring, pouring from great heights, etc. Buy blueprints for upgraded machines and weld them together in your workshop.
If you’re looking for a VR version of Last Call (anyone remember that game?) that doesn’t require you to learn the drink recipes by heart as, for example, Bartender VR Simulator does, this is it.
However, for as much fun as the game is, it has a few issues (the last two of which the developers have promised to fix in a future update):
1. It’s short. I know this is a frequent complaint about VR games, but this one is really short. You could probably beat the campaign in about an hour, and get all the achievements in another. This is partly due to how easy it is to buy upgrades and teleporter parts. If you play well, you can afford one of those after each shift. If the game didn’t limit you to one teleporter part per shift, it could be beaten even faster. Once you’ve done that, you have nothing left to do except getting better at bartending or trying to get the high score at the daily shift (at which you only get one shot each day). Maybe play a few of the minigames. Don’t go into this game expecting a lot of content.
2. A lot of features aren’t explained in the tutorial, such as the aforementioned bartending tricks.
Absolute blast. One of the best games i’ve played in a while. Great physics and satisfying gameplay. Can be a little stressful especially in later levels but if you don’t want that there is a sandbox where you can make all sorts of drinks. Great settings, awesome art style, very little negative things to say about the game. Highly Recommend!
Great game but not alot of Replay value. I abolsutely love this game, the campaign is great, the graphics are amazing, the drinks are beutiful and make me throw up when i try to drink them, everyting is great. My only problem is that after fishing the campaign theres not alot todo after, you can play all the mini games in the Hub which are fun but get repeative (i cant even score 1 point of reverse basketball) the only replay value for the core gameplay are the daily shifts, trophy hunting, and collecting endless money towards nothing. I just want more startending so i can play my favorite game more
Disabled and love it. My conclusion for this game is this: It is my favorite game in all my years of using quest 2 and Gear. That being said, it does have its flaws.
1) I am disabled and cannot stand so I use the sitting feature. I appreciate that you can rotate the screen with a simple button and can pull down drinks that would otherwise be out of reach. Things can get a little snug on the side coolers. Quick button action is required to rotate the screen really fast to move the"beer cans" into reach.
1) Better instructions are needed for the higher level ingredients. I tried reading the ingredients menu but it wasn't really helpful when I was wondering why my ingredients were bounching across the bar 😅. I can't compete in the daily shifts because my ingredients don't want to cooperate...maybe a tutorial, or more info on how to use the ingredients in the ingredients screen, ex. Anti anti matter- curse you!!!!! Lol
2) The game isn't long enough. It would help replay value if you could create add ons that makes a consumer want to come back to a game that was carefullythought out. What if you could purchase an add on campaign or a special club you could help out at cause your transporter brought you to the wrong galaxy. Either way- Yes please😎
Fantastic Game. I'm very picky about VR games but startenders is a must have VR title it is incredibly fun and I play it alot. I did have some feedback I feel like online multiplayer would be an amazing addition along with an endless mode. Other than that I hope it comes out on steam so that I can purchase it again and stream it on twitch
Great game, can get stressful. This is an awesome game and it really feels like your tending a bar. The different drink recipes are very unique and fun to make. My only gripes are that some symbols look very similar to each other, for example one of the tap drinks is a yellow triangle thing and it looks very similar to a spirit bottle symbol so sometimes it takes me a few seconds to know what I’m doing which can end up costing a customer sometimes because this game is so fast paced. Other than that I like the physics, the upgrade system and the story. I don’t know about it being too short as others have said as I only get to play it sometimes when I’m not tired from work but to me it seems pretty fun and I think they’re adding endless mode soon so that should be good :)
Awesome game! I remember playing tipsy bartender when I was a kid and it was a blast. Now, you can play a 1000x better version in VR. The game is challenging, which I like. I wouldn't want it to be a walk in the park. Even though the game is pretty short and you can finish it in like 2 hours, it has a lot of replayability. It is very satisfying to just go serve drinks with your fully upgraded bar. Also there is a daily mode, in which you get a chance to compete against other people online with randomly set up bar and ingredients. I would also welcome some endless mode, which gets progressively more challenging, and by the looks of it it's coming very soon! Altogether an awesome game, 100% recommended.
