Changed my life. I weighed 378 lbs when i started boxing on Thrill of the fight. first week i couldn’t make it 3 rounds on easy. One year later, I am down to 275lbs and beating the game from start to finish on Advanced as my bi-weekly work out. This game (and an appropriate diet) changed my life. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great at home workout.
This game gets expensive. The best boxing simulator hands down. Got a dad bod? This game can fix that. Got love handles? This game can fix that. FUPA? This game will fix that. If you have poor cardiovascular endurance then this game will square you away faster than your TV falls to the floor when you accidentally punch it for the 3rd time. I've broken 2 light sockets, broken a TV, broken my desk lamp, and punched a hole in my wall. But G0d d@mn is this game fun
Awesome Sim! You're literally fighting a dude. No arcadey mechanics or in-game stamina. Game design is pretty good at keeping you from punching your walls as well. You can punch the ref while he announces you as the winner to asert total dominance in the ring. Your coach is also puncable between rounds when your bloodlust cannot be tamed.
This game is one of the best workouts you can get in VR.
Pro tip: You can line up an irl chair with your in-game stool for some weirdly good immersion while catching your breath between rounds.
Best boxing game out there. This game is heavily fun wether you are a avid boxing fan or the average joe . As a amateur fighter i come out of this game sweaty as hell . This game Is great fun and I 100% recommended this over creed . You can train and fight opponents that test your boxing skills and fitness . This game has impeccable replayability with me coming back to fight the basic opponent on endurance over and over again.
My comments for devs are ~Introduce a online system where you can fight your friends possibly with cosmetics so you can style out ur boxer ~Mabye add a pad work section as part of the training so you can develop accuracy and speed
Other than that the game is perfect and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fitness to anyone who likes a fun game
A Must Own VR Title. This is a great boxing game. Tracking is fluid. I like how you progress to bigger venues. It's an intense workout. I try to play at least one fight every night.
Things I'd like to see:
1.Multiplayer Support 2. Coaching advice between rounds 3. Walk out into the ring. You pick your walkout music, gold chain, entourage, etc. 4. Penalty for punching below the belt and the referee. 5. Detailed stats tracking 6. Some kind of system for winning over the crowd. For example at some venues it would be cool if they booed you and threw things to begin with but you could win them over. 7. Add bare-knuckle mode. Blood everywhere. 8. Add damage to you so one of your eyes can swell shut or you become wobbly. 9. Show your overall record and some stats before your fight and stats of who you're fighting (during the walkout). Maybe you could have some ringside commentary. 10. Colorful commentary from ringside, the corners, and the fans.
The only workout I can bring myself todo. This is so physically taxing it's rediculous I played 2 fights and list my voice and can't even lift my controllers up. I'm pretty over weight and just can't bring myself to work out, this game changes that. It's so mentally engaging and you don't have to leave your house if you have bad anxiety or anything, haven't been this sore ever but it feels like I finally found the answer to my issue of getting in shape.
Great Game. I was debating getting this game, but after watching some reviews I gave in. It was definitely worth it, for a great price, you get a great cardio workout, and sweat a whole bunch 😂. I have to take break to recover, this game actually gets me sore! This is a great game and has some awesome features.
Old Fart5です。
Old Fart5. When my wife and kids chipped in and bought me VR 2 and Thrill of fight. I thought ok I'll give it a try. By the way my kids are in their middle 30s. Which makes 69. I love this game. In my youthful offender days. I did karate, jujitsu and weight lifting as I got older. So now I am getting injections of gorilla glue crap to keep my knee, rt shoulder together no more weight lifting. Playing Thrill of fight got me to drop 12lbs and I just beat The Money Maker. I don't understand why the jab is not a good point maker. As I was learning how each fighter has different move and different speeds. In real life the jab was my killer weapon. It set up my combos. Hell I've knocked people out with the jab. In Thrill of the fight I would hit the fighters at least 10 times to the face and solar plexus. 20 times total and it was nothing. (In your Thrill of the fight 2 please give the jab a higher point rating). Other than that it is absolutely the best game out there. I need Thrill of the fight 2. This game got some of that youthful speed, distance, and timing back and weight lost. If there is anyway to prereserve Thrill of the fight 2 I will jump on it. Thanks Patrick
MAN I WANT AN UPDATE. Across all the games in my library Thrill of the fight is without a doubt my most favorite vr game.I started from just slugging punches at any opening I saw to learning proper footwork and combinations. Its a part of my workout routine and a game I will keep coming back to for a long time
My only "concern" more of a request is new content .I'd love to see something cool like a story mode,Online Multiplayer or new tracking features or even a another sequel that retains what makes the game great. It doesn't have to come quick but I'd love it if we fans can have a little sneak peak at what the devs are working on
Life Changing Game. First review I’ve ever written for a game. I share a similar experience to many other reviewers.
I’m 43 and was out of shape. Had a difficult time keeping any sort of regular fitness regiment, and I sit at a desk all day at work. I saw this game on sale, and decided to give it a try. So glad I did!
Having never boxed before, I started off slow and had to learn technique. I now box every night for at least an hour (usually closer to 2) on a custom game with 12 5 minute rounds at the highest difficulty. My core has strengthened. My back, shoulders, legs and arms have toned. Crazy thing is, I look forward to the workout because it’s both fun and challenging. The game pushes me without even realizing it because I’m fully immersed.
This is a life changing game. The developer has done an amazing job. Well done!!
A onclusive review (in my eyes). TLDR; great boxing game and you can lose a lot of weight.
If, by the end of this review you find you don’t want this game for it seeming too challenging or too demanding and your willing to pay 3x the price, get creed; rise to glory. However, this game is much less immersive and you will not lose as much weight at all compared to this game.
So let me start off by saying that this is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE if you want a fitness game. You’ve read all the transformation stories, and if you haven’t, people are losing 20 pounds playing everyday for 30-45 days. Seriously, if you want to lose weight but don’t want to go to the gym, or even on top of the gym, this is an amazing fitness game. Now, on a gameplay perspective, don’t expect to be knocking out your opponent even on easy difficulty. This game is realistic, so that means you can’t just mindlessly throw your arms and expect to win. You need a strategy, but an adaptive one because each opponent has their own too. Moving on, after reading a lot of the (mostly stupid) 1 star reviews here are the issues I found the most.
1. “Game won’t download/install”
This issue is a problem with oculus themselves, not the devs, so don’t take it out on them because trust me, I read a lot of people taking it out on them. Installing/downloading is handled completely by oculus themselves, so contact oculus support instead of leaving a one star review.
2. “I’m punching as hard as I can but it’s not doing anything.”
The thrill of the fight has a dynamic punching mechanic. It finds the average force of your punches and sets that as your normal punch which deals a set amount of damage/stamina. This is constantly changing in a fight too, so If your only punching as hard as you can, it’s going to think that’s your normal punch. You can also set your normal punch manually too if you don’t want to deal with that. If you want to do this I think you should punch the dummy around at what you think is your average force and set that as your normal punch.
3. “The ring in the game is in the wall/furniture.”
The boxing ring in game is entirely based off your own guardian. If you put your guardian in the wall or in furniture and you punch things and/or break your controller that’s on you.
4. “I can’t move”
You walk. To move in game you walk. Like, with your real life legs. There’s no snap turning or walking with the joystick. This also means there is no resetting your view.
5. “Game ai is stupid” and “it’s way too hard” (I grouped it up because a 5 point list is just nicer then a 6 point list)
Every time I saw this complaint it was almost always for the same reason. This reason being that when you punch the ai punches you at the same time even when hit. When you punch, you sometimes open your self up to get punched yourself. The ai is taking advantage of this so when it ‘sees’ that you opened yourself up, it’s going to punch you. Another complaint about the ai I saw a lot besides this was that your opponent doesn’t ever really back up unless you push them. A big part of boxing is maneuvering around, and sadly with this problem the experience is slightly hindered immersion wise. This is the only real complaint that isn’t stupid and there isn’t really a way around it. That being said, it’s barely a real issue that I myself didn’t really find too important. On top of all that, if the game is hard, then seriously just get good. Practice, watch a real fight, play more, etc. this game is challenging in a fun and realistic way, making it a great and immersive boxing sim. If you don’t want that or to lose as much weight then turn the force of your punches to unrealistic levels. And if it’s STILL too hard for you just play on the easiest difficulty.
Well, with that out the way there are a few more things I want to mention (yes I know this is really long but hey I called it conclusive for a reason). First off, there isn’t a tutorial in the game so here’s a run down of what you should know. You move in game by walking in real life, you can block punches by holding up your hand(s) with your palm(s) facing inwards, you can also dodge by, well, dodging, lastly there are weak points on your opponent, you can check these on the dummy. Another thing is that on the menu you have to punch the buttons, no clicking involved. One more thing is that if you have never watched a boxing match, and never plan on it, it will take a while to get used to the playing style, don’t drop the game just because your not used to it. And if you don’t want to waste time doing that, watch a boxing match or two and really pay attention to the punches and blocking. Lastly (for this section at least), and this is probably the most important thing to remember, you are actually exercising, so think of this as exercising. You will sweat, and you will need water, you should DEFINITELY drink water. Also, in between each round there’s s 1 minute break, take it.
Ok, I know that was a lot, but this is the last paragraph. If you couldn’t tell already, I think this should be a staple. Not even considering the fact that it’s just a fun and challenging game, you could genuinely lose a ton of weight if you really stick with it. I mean losing 20 pounds in 30 days if you play it everyday for an hour or two. Yeah beat saber is fun, but it never has you sweating like In this game, and it won’t tone your deltoids, biceps/triceps, and abs like this. If I’m being honest I think I have exaggerated, BUT only slightly, and that this is a GREAT game. And keep in mind all of this is coming from someone who never had an interest in boxing before.
P.S; your not going to lose all that weight if you don’t eat a balanced and healthy diet and if you play on the easiest difficulty.
Boxing, experience. This game is one of the best boxing games if not then the best!! You definitely break a sweat after the first fight. If your not really active but u like video games then this is a must. It keeps you entertained and you exercise too. WARNING ⚠️⚠️ if it’s your first time playing this expect to be really sore the first couple of times but you then get used to it. I really recommend this game!!
Incredible game and price. I was skeptical based on the price. But, after reading the reviews I decided that for the price it was worth a try. I love this game. I had been playing Creed for 3 times as much money. After playing this game for several weeks, I went and tried Creed again and it's so bad in comparison. My only minor complaint would be for more rounds in endurance mode instead of the opponent just taking more punishment. I also would pay for an update adding more opponents. My usual day is 3 or 4 fights with a warm up on the dummy or heavy bag. I'm pouring sweat and I can feel the muscle gain in my arms and shoulders. I also love that you can bob, slip punches and circle your opponent. I boxed in the army and I 100% recommend this game/exercise.
This game isn't comfortable! This game will whoop your glutius maximus into shape. No kidding! It will work up a sweat that soaks you like a garden hose. It'll make you gasp for air like like an astronaut on Mars. Your shoulders and arms will be sore and you'll feel like a gnawed on rib bone after a few fights...and that's the easy levels. This is a boxing simulator that teaches you how to aim a punch. Jabs, hooks, crosses, and uppercuts. You'll wish they made a VR spa and massage . THIS GAME ROCKS!
Pain and Sweat BUT FUN. Very well spent money. I messed up my knee boxing for 60 minutes straight… Figjt after fight after fight. That’s how addictive this game is. I wish I took this game more casual and not so seriously. I have been fighting for real. Throwing the hardest punches ever lol trying to knock out my opponents and I injured my knee in my basement but it was worth it. My stamina my upper body strength has improved. I tried to use this as a workout and it definitely works. Buy it is worth it.
One of the best game and it's 10 bucks??. This the best Boxing Vr and its only $10.00! Because of its low price people might think it's a cheap wanna be boxer game (like I did). I'll say after spending a month on this game. This Became one of my favorite fitness program.
That AWESOME sauce: Going the Distance!
Not your Daddy's boxing game (puchout what??). You use your entire body for blocking, dodging (wich I didn't know), do any combination of punches. It does determine how powerful and fast your punch is. Your oppent will act accordingly during the fight. This game will make you drench soaking wet. I mean yes you do need a mop after each fight. That how much you will be sweating. My heart rate went up to 161 in one point.
The Mild Sauce: This not your Knockout game.
This one is fun playing in one spot mode. But if you truly want to enjoy this. You need a bigger space ( I have to rearrange my furniture in my studio apartment..there goes my deposit). There is learning curve to this game. If you never been to a fight. It will take time to learn the dynamics of this game.
As mentioned above this is NOT your typical knockout game. Where you do bunch of combinations and TKO your opponents. Nope not this game! Did I mention while your throwing punches. Your opponent will counter attack you. Once he found an opening he can do a combo on you too. You didn't realize you got Knocked the F@$& out!!!! It does take time to learn the dgame. Example: while you throwing your punches and don't have your guard up. Your opponent will see that start a combo of thier own. You will learn quickly that having your guard up is more important that doing wild combinations.
Tip: When you progress. Fight become longer and more round. Learn to pace your self. Also learn how to do bodysuit since this will open up for a head shot.
Pro Tip: Take advantage of every round take a breather. (1 min) ans take time to drink some water and hydrated maybe...mop that sweaty are, you don't want to end up in ER. Hard to explain you got knockout by virtual opponent.
Overal: This is a realtic game. It's extremely great cardio workout. If your new to quest pick this game first! This will sum it what VR is like. Let just say once you get a taste. It's hard to go back to console game or any sit/coach potato game.
Cheat code to muscles. I think a lot of people have drastically undervalued the fitness potential of this game. I’ve boxed for 45 days straight now. I had a full blown “dad bod” before started and I could hear my own heart beat in my ears in between rounds. I regularly box 10-20 rounds a night and have turned all modifiers off and can (amazingly for a game like this) customize the difficulty so I have it above outclassed now (the game’s expert difficulty). If I swing full force, I can beat the champ by round 9-10. If I stop moving my feet or my head, he will walk through me (which happens a lot). It pisses me off and I immediately fight him again. I’ve lot 20 pounds of fat in 45 days and my shoulders are shedded. My leg muscles are even growing from stepping in to punch and dodging. I currently have abs forming again for the first time since my late 20s. I tried a lot of stuff to get back into shape, but I found that the motivating factor for me was an immersive game like this that put me toe to toe against my own laziness. Fighting in a competitive boxing match is rated as the highest metabolic activity you can perform (MET of 12.8). You cannot recreate this out of vr as even sparring does not burn calories like being in a fight, and if you fought 20 rounds for 45 days straight in reality, you’d have brain damage. Every time I finish a fight, I have to wipe the oculus and my clothes look like I’ve jumped into a swimming pool from sweat. It’s simply the ultimate. Skip Supernatural and waving sticks around. I paid 11 dollars for this game. I would’ve paid 100 times that for the results I’ve gotten for Thrill of the fight. My hope is that this review helps people like me to purchase.
Truly Experience The Thrill of The Fight. This game makes you feel like a proper bad***, and you can adjust it so that you can have the mass of a boxer and not an underweight twig of a teenager. I figured that "cheating" a little would give me a fighting experience similar to Blade and Sorcery in intensity, and boy was I wrong.
At first, it wasn't too draining, but near the end of the game, it doesn't matter if you set the mass as high as you want. It will put you through the wringer. Mindlessly swinging isn't enough, you must time your punches. The different fighting styles of the boxers require you to have a versatile approach, not a prefixed strategy. I figured I had experienced the "thrill" before the end of the game, but there was nothing like playing the final round at proper difficulty.
It was the 5th round. Beat the absolute crap out of him, but by that point I had knocked him down like 5 times and I was pooped, so I decided to pull up a chair and see what I could do sitting down.
I could feel that internal voice they show in movies telling me not to give up. I was knocked out, and I could really feel it. So I pushed the chair back, and I gave it my all, even as my arms were screaming and my face was dripping with sweat, even as the lenses of my quest fogged and the "facial interface" popped off on the bottom.
And I knocked him out. I won. Right then and there, I truly experienced the thrill of the fight. I threw my arms up and screamed as I basked in the roar of the crowd, and I felt like the REAL world champion. I overcame my limits and I put my name in the history books.
Of course, I didn't really, but wow. This is a real boxing simulator. This is way better than creed, creed can't give you this feeling. You aren't living out Creeds story, you are living out your own. You train yourself, you fail yourself, and you overcome the odds yourself. And you get one hell of a workout even if you try to avoid it.
