From 1967 until 1985, guests at Disneyland had the opportunity to ”travel into the incredible universe found within a tiny fragment of a snowflake." The attraction, Adventure Thru Inner Space, sought to use the tools of cinematic set design to explore the lessons of science, with massive structures representing water molecules and elaborate projection revealing the microscopic world of the atom. The ride was developed during Walt Disney's final years, when he repeatedly explored how the tools of filmmaking might be repurposed to explore worlds beyond cinema in his theme park. Adventure Thru Inner Space was groundbreaking not only in introducing the Omnimover and by creating an attraction almost wholly focused on backgrounds (with no characters except for the onboard narration) but in the way it arranged dramatic, themed space toward educational goals.
Broken. I was excited to try this on my new Quest 2, but it's all black & white with no textures loading. Other reviews have mentioned the same. Any chance of a fix/update?
Black and white??. I was so looking forward to seeing this. This version, that I downloaded on 3.October.2022, is now a very simplified schematic of little color, black and white contrasty shapes and NO realistic experience of what I remember this attraction being. I recall there being a MUCH better version that was still in development. What happened to that one??
Amazing! Could be flawless w one change. This is phenomenal and I am so thankful to experience this since I was never able to go to the real deal. If I could offer one suggestion, I know this ride had a feature with speakers built into the ride capsules, and if there is a way to incorporate spatial audio to mimic the effect of those speakers, that would take this to the next level. I'm also not sure if the ride itself made any noise as it moved along but maybe a "track" noise would also help with immersion? Thanks again devs!
Library of Realities.com review:. Project Snowflake turns the clock back to 1967 for a virtual ride of the now defunct Disneyland ride Adventures Thru Inner Space. Climb aboard an Atommobile and head into the darkness where the Mighty Microscope shrinks you down to the size of a molecule and flings you into a snowflake where you can marvel at visual spectacles on a subatomic scale. Accompanied by the narration and soundtrack from the original ride, Project Snowflake recreates every scene from the ride; jogging the memories of former riders and teaching others about this landmark theme park ride.
Though the experience lacks polish - there's no menu system for example, as the app jumps straight into the ride - we're very grateful for its existence and hope experiences like these can illustrate the importance of preserving the memory of old rides and theme parks. It appears that some scenes are recreated more faithfully than others, and particularly on Quest the experience appears to be lacking in color when compared to video captures of the real thing. However, we're no experts and are happy to enjoy this five minute ride for what it is.
This labor of love was developed by Disney fans Jeremy Marx and Kurt Pfeifer and is available through the Disney History Institute website as a PC download or as a free Meta Quest app. The experience on the two platforms is much the same, though there are some improved lighting effects on the PC version.

Disney World was Meant for VR. Went to Disney World in November for the first time and then spent a lot of time learning about its history, reading books, listening to podcasts, and even doing a course on theme park design. I started planning a VR app that would allow you to experience an imaginary ride, but never followed through. Great execution. Hope to see more content like this in the future.
I can almost smell the people movers. An incredible recreation of a Disney ride that has since fallen by the way side. Monsanto and Disney partner to bring you an Adventure Through Inner Space! I wish we could experience the entire park from long ago like this! Thank you Devs!

Just like being at Disney! This was short but tons of fun. I'd love more VR rides like this. I felt just like I stepped onto an attraction ride. It was a fascinating look at a historical concept. Bring on VR Disney!
Beautifull made. I tried Snowflake on my Quest 1 and I love it. It is really immersive. I feel like i am actually inside the ride. The original audio is also good. Very well done. so , here's 5 stars to the developer.
