Better than Air Link. It works so smooth with 5G, I can't believe I don't need cable. On Air Link I have constant hiccups and quality drops every minute or so. Steam Link solved this problem for me AND I can up the resolution now, without being afraid of poor streaming quality.
Works Great. Make sure you have a fast and strong wifi connection. The app works great for me! Being able to play steam VR games quickly and wirelessly is amazing! My only request: Please release SteamVR support for Mac - I'd love to play PCVR games while traveling with my MBP.
Only going to get better. Some downsides, but they are quickly being resolved. This app does not currently surpass every feature of VD, but it will very soon. It's already more reliable than VD, better ease-of-use, and far less processing intensive. Valve knows more about this tech than anyone else, this app will soon be the standard for PCVR.
Main selling feature for quest 3. In my opinion this app is making selling feature for Quest 3. The only thing to consider - you must have good router connected to PC directly. I personally have the same latency on WiFi and cable, I don’t like using cable (even though image is better by cable) because I need to use oculus link app (it’s bad..)
I can play VR now without any cables, even in another room, just perfect. The only thing is that Meta needs to give more permissions for Steam developers to be able to make app even better, and use it as a main selling feature for wireless PCVR.
It works smoothly. Great to have 3’rd party integrations like this! Negative reviews probably don’t have required network capabilities. You need a good router that supports new fast wifi protocols at your home to be able to stream from your pc to your headset. Also you need a good pc too.
Easy. Powerful. Perfect. Play ANY steam VR game on quest... What else is there to say? Zero tweaking required. Want to join us? Search for our group name on Google and join us in the steam group chat as we play on Quest.
Went from 1 Star to 5 Stars. Ever since the audio issues were fixed, I can now use Steam link and it has pretty much replaced both airlink and virtual desktop for me. It just works better.
The only thing I wish this app had support for was translating the Meta body tracking and swapping to hand tracking on the fly so it be used in social VR apps like VRChat. But that’s a lot of technical work and I can understand why valve wouldn’t want to spend time on doing that.
I’m going to keep my old review for context but really this app is a must have if you’re a PC gamer.
Old review:
Valve, I love you guys but in it's current state I can't recommend this app. I'm getting no audio on my headset.
I can hear the game on my pc but no matter what audio source I choose in windows, I can't get the sound to come from the headset instead. I'll be keeping an eye out for any updates made on the app to see if the issue gets resolved in the future.
I really want to love this, but sadly until it's fixed, I can't in good faith recommend this app.
Nice and Easy for me. Overall it's great. However, I've recently encountered a minor problem, and I'd like to see it fixed. After running Steam Link, when I press the button to connect to Steam VR on the PC, the Korean text is broken into square boxes. This issue did not exist in the initial version, but occurred after a few updates. I didn't provide feedback because I expected it to be fixed soon, but I did so late.
Never had an issue. This app works great if you have a pc that can handle the bare minimum needed for vr gaming (mine is 13 years old pre-owned with an RX550), and Ethernet hooked up to it.
It’s so much simpler and runs better than air link for me, so it’s always my go-to for pcvr. Obviously Game Streaming like this can be buggy and experimental so always make sure you have everything in order for your app to work.
